Franklin Graham's son (Billy's grandson) hurt in Iraq

Graham's son hurt in Iraq
TIM FUNK

Attendees at last Saturday's MissionFest in Toronto knew they'd get the Good News from Franklin Graham, who heads Charlotte's Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

But, in his keynote address, Graham also offered some startling family news: His youngest son, Capt. Edward Graham, an Army Ranger, had just been injured in Iraq.

"He got shrapnel in his arms, legs and back," Graham spokesman Jeremy Blume told me. "And he was recovering...in a hospital that can't be named for security reasons."

Blume added that the wounds to young Graham, 27, a West Point graduate, were not life-threatening. "He's going to be fine," Blume said.

I called the Pentagon for more information about the grandson of Billy and Ruth Graham, but am still waiting for a call-back.

1. God didn't protect him from getting wounded, but I guess He did keep him from being killed.

10. What do you mean "He"? I worship only the SHE.

I could not worship any god who told Abraham to kill his son.

And then CHANGED HIS MIND!

Now There's a Sadist.

11. My text comment was "Our prayers were answered.", meaning from the viewpoint
of the Grahams. I sure that they pray to a blonde-haired, blue-eyed male figure on a throne that sort of resembles Billy Graham.

23. In God We Trust, but ALL OTHERS PAY CASH.
Precisely the real motto of Billy Graham Quacker and his offspring.

I wish him a speedy recovery. Hopefully the tone will stay civil.

4. At least the Grahams, who support the war are sending one of
their family members to fight it; that's more than I can say for most of the Warmongering, Thieving Rethuglicans.

My prayers and positive thoughts go to the family. I hope that Franklin and his wife are beginning to recognize the folly of this war (I can only hope).

5. Very sad. Best wishes to him and his grandfather.
Hope he recovers soon.

His father, Franklin, is known for his anti-Muslim extremism, and has been very active in promoting hate and militarism. May Franklin someday see that hate only creates hate, and renounce it.

6. Amen.
And, like I said above, I hope that Franklin will understand the stupidity of addressing the problem of scarce resources by illegal invasion and occupation.

19. Agree. Though I don't know

if Billy is such a good guy. Remember the tapes of him talking with Nixon? Also, he "planted the mustard seed" that allegedly brought * to Jesus, so I think he ought to get his protege to shape up a bit.

And he'll be here at the Mayo Clinic, pampered like hell. No Building 18 for him.

16. I have nothing but respect for those who are carrying the burden of the war
on the US side or the civilians in Iraq. I'm sitting here comfortably on the sidelines going about my day to day life.

22. That implies that their war has anything whatsoever to do with your day to day life.
Almost like the canard that they are "fighting for your freedoms."

21. It is honorable that he went over there.
His grandfather should be proud.

Hopefully he has more of his grandfather in him than his father.

25. Billy deserves more credit than he gets from progressives
For two reasons:

1. Billy sat the the white power structure of Charlotte, NC down and told them
"You need to desegregate the public schools". Result: Yours truly was attending
grade school there with African-American kids during the 1968-1969 school year.
Years later, I recall watching violent protests against busing in 'liberal' Boston and thinking 'these people are stupid'.

2. Billy learned to not run his mouth off acting like God's appointed Agent of Judgement, unlike Falwell or Robertson.

And yes, Franklin is a jerk. Hopefully, he'll wise up like his old man did.
