By HENRY C. JACKSON

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Illinois Sen. Barack Obama on Saturday said the U.S. will have to abandon it's efforts in Iraq, regardless of the costs, if serious reforms are not made by the Iraqi government.

"In the absence of those conditions we're just throwing money away," Obama said during a campaign stop in Dubuque.

"We have to be honest that, in the absence of these changes, if these changes aren't made, there is not much we can do," to help the Iraqi people, he added later.

More than 2,000 people attended a town hall meeting to hear Obama on the first of two days of campaigning in Iowa that was to include stops in five eastern Iowa cities.

it's efforts ?

This said, I do not disagree with Obama. My only question is: if the make efforts, how long should we stay? It seems like an open-ended commitment that does not correspond to the Senate's bill or Obama's bill.

4. Ugh....Tossing the corpse at the feet of the Iraqis and pointing is a Bushco tactic
NOT a Democratic tactic.

SUCH a bullshit cop out to say 'Hey, we destroyed your country, now pick up the pieces quick, or we're out of here and it's YOUR fault.' BULLSHIT.

:banghead:

Obama, WAKE THE FUCK UP...Quit pantomiming what you see and hear around you. It is NOT the responsibility of the puppets to control the hand...It is up to US to get the fuck out of their country so it may do what they may want.

I'm not saying don't offer help, but we MUST quit pretending we are in control and get out of the way of this fucking mess.

6. This article is unreadable and bordering on meaningless
The references to "reforms," "those conditions," and "changes" are never spelled out. It's probably one of the most unintelligible pieces of journalism I've ever seen.

7. Perhaps this part of the article says it better.
"It's time to end this war and bring our troops home," Obama said Saturday, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd in the Loras College Field House.

He said there are no good options left in Iraq.

"We only have bad options and worse options," he said.

It is unclear what the quote the article started with is really all about. Like another poster said, this is a badly written article.
