TEHRAN, Iran - Iran on Monday issued a bank note with a nuclear symbol in a move seen as an assertion of its national will in the face of international sanctions over its insistence on enriching uranium.

The new note for 50,000 rials — worth about $5.40 — also reflected rising inflation, a fact that has brought criticism of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's policies. It is worth more than twice the previously highest denomination note.

The note is printed in orange, green and blue and shows a nuclear symbol within a map of Iran. A brief text next to the symbol gives a quote from the Prophet Muhammad: "Men from the land of Persia will attain scientific knowledge even if it is as far as the Pleiades." Pleiades is a cluster of stars.

In conformity with the law, the note also bears a portrait of the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the father of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Publishers such as the ones at the NY Times are happy propagandists for those that want war against Iran.

BTW, that's a symbol of atomic power, not atomic bombs. It was also used as the corporate logo for the now defunct Allied Artists studios in Hollywood.

as for the nuclear non-proliferation treaty the US, France, Britain, China, and Russia are breaking it more than iran; the second pillar of the treaty is disarmament while the third is spread of peaceful nuclear technology.

Not so much because of the symbol, but it shows how far this current misadministration has pushed them into desensitization towards such a topic. If iran was dangerous before, I'd take a gamble that they're a threat now. Not so much a threat we should attack, more like one * should stop pissing off.

23. So? They're proud of their technological advances.

It's not a militaristic symbol at all, certainly not as it appears in the banknote. Nuclear energy research and production is a sovereign right morally and legally.
