3. A non denial denial. Why announce that you're not running...right now?
Get's his name and face out there I guess.

6. If any Dem is thinking they could support Hagel -
Edited on Mon Mar-12-07 10:30 AM by eagler
he just said that he is a Republican and has always voted as such since 1968. He appears to me to be very indecisive as he said that he would announce his intentions today but instead announce his intentions to announce later - a waste of jounalists time.

7. He's stalling
Because he doesn't want a Democrat to declare their intentions to run for his Senate seat and give them any chance whatsoever of winning.

8. He's running, but won't admit it--he'll raise money and appear as a candidate at
functions, and see where that gets him--whether he goes all the way in is the question. Once you announce, the media either forgets about you (Huckabee, Edwards) or starts tearing into you (Hillary, Giuliani, McCain). He's smart, but a frustrating person. I'd like to know for certain what we face as Dems, but I think it's safe to assume he'll be a factor.

9. Hagel did exactly what he intended to do. He's fishing. He wants to
generate the hype and see what the odds are he could get the nomination. If he starts being called the new white hopeless of the GOP, he's run. If it fizzles then hell, he's just out the time he spent for a press conference. And he upstaged Rudy and Newt and Mitt and John and all the other republics hoping for the nod.
