25. Stars & Stripes had a letter on that note...rather depressing..."it's too late"
an excerpt:

Problem lies with leadership

...One of our great past presidents once stated that “The buck stops here.” It appears that our present leadership does not know this term. This leadership, from top to the lower levels, has its own personal agenda, which does not take into consideration how others are affected as their personal agenda is pursued.

Normally, a personal agenda is not planned adequately because, had conflict been adequately planned, they would have accounted for the peripheral supplies, training and infrastructural requirements that needed funding or manning.

Firing the responsible secretary and major general at this point is much too late. This personal agenda mind-set has flowed downhill to the leadership at all levels. These senior “leaders” have been promoted by their respective leaders because they hid the truth, painted pretty pictures of a bad situation or refused to provide top leadership with the real bad news. Our top leaders don’t want to hear that things cannot be accomplished. They just want them accomplished and not be told how it was done. As a result, they can look you straight in the eye and tell you that they knew nothing about the peripheral tragedies, as in the case of Walter Reed.

Some heads always roll. This is a risk our “yes” people face, when someone takes the system to court as finally was done with Walter Reed.

Official: Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley fired amid Walter Reed scandal
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley has been fired from his position as head of Walter Reed Medical Center, a senior Pentagon official told CNN Monday.

Acting Army Secretary Pete Geren asked for Kiley's resignation, and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates approved the action, the official said.

In its official announcement, the army said Kiley had retired.

Kiley had been made temporary head of the army's premiere medical institution after Army Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman was ousted in the wake of a series in the Washington Post that found soldiers living in deplorable conditions.

Kiley, Army surgeon general and commanding general of Army Medical Command, submitted his request to retire on Sunday, the Army said in a news release. Deputy Surgeon General Maj. Gen. Gale Pollock assumed the duties of the surgeon general. --CNN's Jamie McIntyre contributed to this story (Posted 12:41 p.m.)

13. Oh well, I am sure it was completely his idea......
:sarcasm:

I guess this means the attempt to pin the blame on lower level employees, the media, and the soldiers themselves has pretty much failed.

33. Army's Kiley ousted in Walter Reed furor - Yahoo Headline
WASHINGTON - Army Surgeon General Kevin C. Kiley abruptly stepped down under pressure from military superiors, the third top Army official forced out in the fallout from revelations of shabby treatment of wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

The Army said Monday that Lt. Gen. Kiley had submitted a request to retire over the weekend. Acting Army Secretary Pete Geren had asked Kiley for his retirement, said a senior defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk about the events.

<snip>

In a statement released by the Army, Kiley said, "I submitted my retirement because I think it is in the best interest of the Army." He said he wanted to allow officials to "focus completely on the way ahead."

"We have failed to meet our own standards at Walter Reed. For that, I'm both personally and professionally sorry," he said last week.
