Iranian soldier's body found in Iraqi river (5 other Iranians arrested, traveling w/o proper docs)
Iranian soldier's body found in Iraqi river 38 minutes ago

BASRA, Iraq (AFP) - Iraqi police found a dead Iranian border guard floating in the Shatt al-Arab, the river which separates the two countries, Lieutenant Colonel Karim Zaydi told AFP on Monday.

"We found him on Sunday. His papers show he was called Hadi Ahmad. He seems to have drowned, and there were no signs of violence on him," the police commander said in the southern Iraqi port city of Basra.

Ahmad was found in Iraqi waters in the Al-Siba region south of Basra.

Separately, five Iranians were arrested further south on the Al-Faw peninsula after being caught travelling without proper documents, he added. The two incidents are not thought to be linked.

6. No, it's not. It's *more* than the Euphrates.
It's the river resulting from the confluence of the Euphrates and Tigris.

7. D'oh - back to geography class...

Well, it's not the part of the Euphrates that runs through central Iraq; couldn't it also be called an Iranian river, if it forms part of the border?

9. smuggle
There is a lot of that usually going on on such frontier rivers especially in times of war: drugs, oil, arms. Poor guy, will never know why he died but then again, the same day there were 200 bodies within 50 miles from where he was fished and yet he gets on Faux with his name for his family to know. Thats good for them, most other Iraq dead people's families dont even know for sure what happened and dont get the bodies.
