Democrats confident Iraq plan will pass

By DAVID ESPO and MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press Writers 19 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - House Democratic leaders hunted for votes Tuesday for a war spending bill that would demand troops leave
Iraq before September 2008 and expressed optimism that they would garner the support needed for passage.

The bill, a direct challenge to President Bush's war policies, remained on schedule for an initial test vote Thursday in the House Appropriations Committee and was expected to reach the floor next week.
.............

But whether Democrats had the votes they needed remained unclear. Some of the party's more liberal members said they were unsure whether the bill — distributed late last night — went far enough to end the war, while moderates said they were concerned it went too far and might hamstring the president.

In a bid to broaden the bill's appeal among members, Hoyer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., have stripped from the legislation a requirement that Bush gain approval from Congress before any move against
Iran.

2. I just wrote a letter to Ms Pelosi
re this. I am so upset. You know they will hit Iran if they have an opening. I am sick of war and the lack of political will to do something about it.

4. "moderates said they were concerned it went too far". MONSTERS.
There is no such fucking thing as going "too far" to end a brutal, unprovoked illegal war.

5. They're going to leave WW III up to the incompetent fuck up?
The idiot who's worried about his place in history? The twerp that thinks God talks to him? Sharon's buddy who thinks his only important job is to take the US to war for Israel?

WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT THIS DECISION LEFT UP TO THIS MAN?

6. Damn
Without the provision to give Congress power over the prez declaring war, this thing is useless. The whole point is to get repubs on record as voting against this, and if it got to bush, he would have to veto.
Nancy and Harry are turning out to be weak, scared, and ineffectual as dem leaders. Damn, this is disappointing to see. AIPAC is NOT the American people, leaders. And these so-called "Blue Dog" dems are not dems - they are no better than Traitor Joe, and should switch parties if they want to continue to give political cover to this criminal administration. We need dem legislators with backbone, not political correct milquetoasts.
