WASHINGTON - Embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Wednesday it's up to President Bush whether he remains in the administration and said he wants to stay and explain to Congress the circumstances surrounding the firings of eight U.S. attorneys.

"I work for the American people and serve at the pleasure of the president," Gonzales said. Defending himself amid an escalating political row over the replacement of a host of federal prosecutors, Gonzales said he had done a good job in the country's top law enforcement position.

"I think you can look at the record of the department in terms of what we've done ... going after child predators, public corruption cases," he said on NBC's "Today" show. "I think our record is outstanding."

"I think we've done a good job in managing the department. .. Things are going to happen," he said. "We are going to work with Congress to make sure they know what happened. ... We want to ensure that they have a complete and accurate picture of what happened here."

This flunky's whole professional life has depended on Bush. He knows it, Bush knows it (the reason he has 'bought' him), and we all know it. He is still functioning as Bush's lawyer and protector, not as the lawyer of the people which is what the AG is supposed to be.

why haven't they provided the documents Congress and others have requested? How many times have we heard a senator ask why he didn't receive an answer to his questions or copies of the documents he requested from Gonzales? That arrogance, alone, should be enough to put his leadership in question....not to mention the myriad of other issues.

This administration is beginning to crumble.

have you heard of the word "impeachment"? Have you heard of congress disbarring someone? I believe, Mr. Gonzales, under a Democratic congress, you MAY have someone else to account to. You sure don't give a damn about the American people's opinion, and you sure don't give a damn about JUSTICE.

Of course a republican congress didn't give a damn how much you lie or abuse your power...it turned them on! Republicans get a big boner over abuse of power and lying. It makes 'em feel so macho. In fact, they feel SO turned on and macho that they go out and find the nearest boy child or male prostitute to have sex with.
