Like father like son, a republicon crony through and through.

It's a Granite State of Mind.

What hay might the SNU make calling for the axe to fall upon Gonzo?

This is not principle, but cold calculation. Depend upon it.

6. Sununu needs to fear
The US Attorney refused to act on the phone jamming case in NH which helped Sununu win his seat. He should be very afraid.

actually mean that whatever comes after Gonzo will be any better?

8. It might be a totally political move on Sununu's part
But even if it is, it's difficult for the White House to spin this into a positive, unless they want to talk about how bipartisan everyone's being about the Attorney General.

And who knows? With Sununu's defection, maybe some other Republican Senators, ones that matter, will pluck up the courage to cross the Bushistas. Although Bush, for all his faults, is a master at running around to the front of the parade to make it look like he was leading it all the time (patients' bill of rights in Texas, homeland security, and on and on). Of course, he usually just takes over something so as to fuck it up and then revert to his former position so he can say that he knew all along it wouldn't work. But firing Gonzales doesn't really have a retrieval side to it.

13. That was my first thought...
I wonder if other senators like Gordon Smith of Oregon will continue to try and head off losing in 2008 will follow suit here. This will be an interesting area to watch too. Because if there are a significant amount of Sununu's here that go against Gonzales now, I think we have a good measuring stick as to what it might take to get an effective impeachment and conviction through the senate of Bushco later, if we find similar damning evidence that we now have with Gonzales.

14. His old man gave Poppy his Hail Mary win in NH in 1988
Edited on Wed Mar-14-07 06:21 PM by Venus Dog
"In the 1988 Republican primary in New Hampshire, there was no

panel of computer experts who worked for the people and thoroughly

examined the source codes before and after the voting. It is likely that

a notoriously riggable collection of "Shouptronic" computers

"preordained" voting results to give George Bush his "Hail Mary"

victory in New Hampshire.

Nobody save a small group of computer engineers, like John Sununu,
the state's Republican governor, would be the wiser."

- Chapter 1 ELECTRONIC HOODWINK from Votescam: The Stealing of America http://www.constitution.org/vote/votescam-.txt

This was purely political and CYA - something's gone awry!

16. He's right, for the exact wrong reason
"The president should fire the attorney general and replace him as soon as possible with someone who can provide strong, aggressive leadership," Sununu said in a statement released by his office.

Sununu told CNN's Dana Bash that Gonzales has lost all credibility because of the firings, controversy over renewal of the Patriot Act, and a report last week that the FBI had underreported its use of national security letters to snoop on Americans.

"These failures have created a deep, widespread lack of confidence in the ability of the attorney general to effectively serve the president at a very important time," Sununu said.

John, the AG does NOT serve the president, he serves We, the People. The major problem with Gonzo is that he does serve *

19. The House should be setting up a Select Committee
to draft articles of IMPEACHMENT OF THE WHOLE DAMN BU$HCO MALADMINISTION! ALL OF THEM BU$H & CHENEY INCLUDED! Hell, Clinton's impeachment only took 2 months, so don't say there isn't anytime.
And to show the world that the US can do the RIGHT THING, the Senate, including Sununu should be among the at least 67 to CONVICT THEM!
I'm sure Waxman et al have all the documents ready.
Not only have there been High Crimes and Misdemeanors, there has also been TREASON! And Gonzo has been an enabler and abettor of this TREASON!
