Nebraskans in Congress supporting 'don't ask'
BY JOSEPH MORTON
WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Congress could take a fresh look at the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gay and lesbian soldiers, but Nebraska lawmakers aren't among those clamoring to scrap the policy.

"It's worked," Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., said of the policy that allows gays and lesbians to serve as long as they keep their sexual orientation to themselves.

"At this point in time, I don't know why you would change it," said Nelson, chairman of the personnel subcommittee of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Senator Ben Nelson

Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, provided new fuel to the debate this week when he defended the current policy, then called homosexuality immoral and compared it to adultery.

1. Pace's faulty logic
The armed services are full of adulterers and alcoholics and spouse abusers and petty thieves. If he is going to huff and puff and take on things that are immoral then he has alot of work ahead of him.

Maybe at his level there is a don't ask, don't tell policy on heterosexual servicemembers who commit "immoral" acts like those listed above.

2. I think "Nebraskans" should decide all policy matters.
Hell, if "Nebraskans" are down with this, that's good enough for me!

6. I wouldn't ever disrespect Nebraska. I grew up in that state and
went two of my four undergraduate years to University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

I love Nebraska! :loveya:

Therefore, I can have "a little fun."

What I don't like are those dastardly "Boomer Sooners." :hi:

7. I knew you was kiddin'--I'm not originally from NE, so I wouldn't have
taken offense anyway. Couldn't care less about the Huskers. But I do try to stick up for this crazy red flyover state when someone's really messin' with it...
