BREAKING NEWS: Bruning to seek Hagel's Senate seat

LINCOLN (AP) - Unwilling to wait for a decision from U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel about whether he will run for president, re-election or neither, those who want his Senate seat are plowing ahead.

Attorney General Jon Bruning announced Thursday that he was forming an exploratory committee in preparation for a run at the U.S. Senate.

He said at a Capitol news conference that he had talked to Hagel about his plans and emphasized that he would not oppose Hagel in next year's primary, if Hagel chose to run for re-election.

Former Omaha mayor and 2nd District Congressman Hal Daub said Thursday he was "strongly considering" a bid.
