Russia to Take Military Steps on U.S. Missile Shield
March 15 (Bloomberg) -- Russia will take ``military measures'' to counter the U.S. plan to install a missile- defense system in Central Europe and the Caucasus, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov said.

``Expansion of that kind into the area which is absolutely right next to our borders is increasing the military potential in that area,'' Losyukov said in an interview at the Foreign Ministry in Moscow yesterday. ``Russia cannot but react to that increase.'' He didn't specify what measures Russia would take.

---
``Whether those things are done with good intentions or bad, it doesn't matter, it increases the hypothetical threat'' to Russia, said Losyukov. ``We are reacting to that and will be reacting to that in terms of taking necessary military measures.''

---
The commander of Russia's strategic air force, Lt. Gen Igor Khvorov, told the state-run RIA Novosti news agency March 5 that Russian bombers had the ability to destroy any missile- defense sites or disarm them electronically.

---
Russian President Vladimir Putin told a defense conference in Munich Feb. 10 the missile shield would ``completely neutralize'' the deterrent threat posed by Russia's own nuclear missiles. ``There will be no more balance of power,'' he said, adding that Russia will aim to produce weapons of its own to ``overcome'' such arms systems.

3. To take steps on shield? What's wrong with the Russians -- can't they read?
The warning clearly states "Do not place foot on shield! Will not hold weight!" ;-)

5. Losyukov should relax
He should know Junior's Maginot Line in the sky doesn't work. The only people who need fear this white elephant are US taxpayers.

Maybe Losyukov is just trying to drum up a white elephant of his own to make Russian rich people richer.

6. Sitting in the middle of it...

Sometimes I can't help and think if Europe should more often stand up and talk for itself!

US: We have this great missile shield!
Europe: ..uhm...
Russia: We'll just increase the number of our missiles. Can't shield them all!
Europe: ..uhm...

Hello!! 60 years since WWII and STILL two foreign nations want to "protect" or threaten us!
Time for a change.
I say we build more nukes in Europe, more than just France has (UK nukes are US pet nukes anyway) and point them at both sides, towards US AND Russia... and China if we're at it anyway... and one or two at Korea and Iran.

Europe has been sleeping and peaceful and "protected" by the US for too long.
Time it wakes up and finds the power to protect itself, both economically and military.

7. .. and not only Russia. China takes steps too.
A working missile shield needs communication satellites because the radar that sees the missiles and the batteries for the interception-missiles are far away.

China can take out satellites, the testet it.
Who wants a missiles shield that protects from landbased ICBM's when the cold war for space domination has long begone!?
A missile shield doesn't help when your early warning system is down, or when the missile comes directly from space instead from the other side of the globe.
