Dubai World seeks to expand presence in Russia...
16 March 2007

MOSCOW — Dubai World is "exploring fresh investment opportunities in Russia to enhance its presence in the country," the company said in a Press statement yesterday.

The vice-chairman of Dubai World and group CEO, Ports and Free Zone World, Jamal Majid bin Thaniah, made the remarks during a meeting with the minister of transport of the Russian Federation, Igor Levitin. They discussed existing and emerging business opportunities in Russia, particularly in the ports, shipping and logistics sectors.

"Russia is a fast developing and very resourceful market. We are keen to expand our business presence here, especially in the marine services and special economic zones sectors. We will initiate the process by empowering our team to conduct high-level discussions with Russian officials," said Bin Thaniah.

The minister gave a presentation on the Russian Federation's plans for the integrated development of the Russian transport sector, including some specific, ambitious projects. He expressed interest in developing a major inland port and special economic zone on the outskirts of Moscow, possibly as a joint venture with Dubai World. <snip>

1. Living and building on sand
in a rising ocean. If they would all go live on those artificial, doomed sand islands sculpted in the shape of the land masses of Earth- and could be made to stay there as the tides rise- i might be all for letting them tempt everyone to go. I have tried to look for the effect of global warming on the Mediterranean, but it can't be good for the already erosion troubled offshore hubristic boondoggle.
