CNN: Arkansas Senator Pryor: Attorney General "lied to the Senate and to the people I represent"
Sen. Pryor: Attorney general lied to Senate
March 15, 2007

Sen. Mark Pryor called for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' resignation Thursday, saying Gonzales "lied to the Senate and to the people I represent."

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Arkansas Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor bluntly accused Attorney General Alberto Gonzales of lying to the Senate about replacing federal prosecutors with interim appointees and joined calls for Gonzales' resignation Thursday.

"When an attorney general lies to a United States senator, I think it is time for that attorney general to go," Pryor said on the Senate floor.

"He did not only lie to me as a person, but when he lied to me, he lied to the Senate and to the people I represent."...

***

The administration...admitted one of the fired prosecutors, U.S. attorney H.E. "Bud" Cummins in Little Rock, Arkansas, had been removed to make way for Timothy Griffin, a former aide to White House political adviser Karl Rove....

When asked about the matter in January, Gonzales told the Senate Judiciary Committee the Bush administration planned to replace the interim appointees with nominees who would be confirmed by the Senate.

But documents released after Monday's resignation of Gonzales' chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, showed Sampson hoped to "run out the clock" and keep Griffin in place over the objections of Pryor and his Arkansas colleague, Blanche Lincoln....

3. Bush should be impeached but the right wing hold him innocent
"everything must be someone else's fault" It couldn't be W's who the rightwingers voted for twice. Yeah, sure. The bush enablers who won't hold themselves accountable.

9. Yes, by all means dump the bird in the hand
Hoping for the Bush.

Calling the Attorney General of the United States of America "a little jerk of no consequence" is so non-comprehending as to belong on Jaywalking.

6. No shit
100x, no shit. We are a VERY self restrained country because Mr. David Pryor should have people lined up to just slap him silly.

8. They are probably working their way up

Once they get those rats in there to testify and realize they have been used and abused they may get real talkative. Remember John Dean wrote the book "Worse than Watergate". This may all be about to come out.

Does Gonzo, et al, still believe in waterboarding? Let's see if it works.

10. I understand the sentiment - but
please take a few steps away from supporting (in jest or not) the "torture-light" methods that are bringing nothing but endless suffering to this world.

24. The use of torture should not have to be a discussion at all.
It is, or we thought it was a given that you never use torture. Was purely making fun of one who seems to feel comfy with the idea of torture.

7. So Sampson was allowed to hire and fire U.S. Attorneys
without informing Gonzo? That's ridiculous - if that is the truth Gonzo should be fired.

What's that saying, if you tell enough lies you forget what you lied about and that is when you get caught. This admin. has lied about just about everything and most have been outed. Those subpoenas are wonderful things. And they were so sloppy they had e-mails sent all over the place describing their daily activity???? After getting by with lieing for years it probably didn't occur to them that they wouldn't hold congress and lose the ability to shut down any investigation.

12. If that's true, then contempt of Congress charges should be brought
for obstruction- and a perjury prosecution initiated.

though I bet he resigns before those documents get delivered. I can't see him staying around through many more revelations - and I would bet there are still a few more zingers ready to be dropped ... probably some late today - Friday night newsdump and all...

15. Senator Pryor, please pick up the Clue Phone for an important message.
There's a BUNCH more Reptiles WAY higher in the food chain that have been lying to you, to the Senate and to the people you allegedly represent. But you and Miz Blank Lincoln have been happy to "stand with our President" on any number of issues.

17. Someone high up actually said "lied"?
That in itself is something very new. We know these people are liars, the people in power know these people are liars, the media surely know they're liars, yet for some strange reason, the latter two groups have been remarkably reticent in calling these liars a bunch of liars. Good for Sen. Pryor for breaching this strange stonewall. May a thousand more accusations of lying bloom. I'm very tired of seeing the lies characterized as "misspeakings" or "misleadings." You're supposed to traffic in reality and accuracy, O bulldogs of the media: Call a lie a lie.

22. Wow, perhaps the FBI would like to hear about you
After all, the last time we ignored an ignorant ass like you, he blew up a federal building in Oklahoma. Timmothy, is that your ghost ... or just one of those you left behind when the government raptured you?

23. He was on Hardball tonight. I thought he did a good job. David
Gregory did a good job too I thought.

I remember the Sen. said "he's lost confidence" in the AG. Then he went on to say that it's "lying" and it is.

I'm glad to see him actually being aggressive and taking a stand.
