Iraq war protesters to converge at White House
Published: Friday March 16, 2007

Thousands of people are expected to converge at the White House Friday in the first of several demonstrations marking the fourth anniversary of the increasingly unpopular Iraq war, organizers said.

Christian Peace Witness for Iraq has organized a worship for Friday night at Washington's National Cathedral to be attended by 4,000 people who will then hold a candlelight procession to the White House, the anti-war group said.

A vigil will take place in front of US President George W. Bush's official residence and 700 people have indicated their readiness to be arrested in an act of civil disobedience, the group said.

The group has billed the event as the biggest Christian peace demonstration since the March 20, 2003, US-led invasion of Iraq, but rain and possible snow forecast for Washington could dampen attendance.

Anti-war activists have heavily mobilized since Democrats took control of Congress from Bush's Republicans in November elections marked by voter anger at the war.

2. After watching the hearing on the WH why don't they just go inside
What are they doing in the WH? This man they sent to Congress just knew not a thing. Like they picked him off the street. I am not sure if I or the Congress people were more shocked.

12. Looks like they are getting all these people from the Young Republican
clubs out of college. Our trust kids running the govt. and are sure it is a hand out if it cones from the govt. as their father's hold their hands in the tax payers pants and give to Bush to be come President. These type will take this country down faster than any one. My way of thinking. Bar way to run a govt.

3. We'll be marching in Portland on Sunday
Kinda hard to ride that war wagon when the wheels have come off, innit?

I sure hope the Oregonian doesn't dismiss our march as cavalierly as they did back in 2003. I'm still peeved at the lengths they went to to challenge the number of people marching, and their casual comment that the protesters were "naive" to think that the invasion of Iraq might have something to do with all that lovely, lovely crude under the sand over there.

Wouldn't it be said if, after all the hard work people put into this, all the talk here turns to the protests in Hungary?
