Vehicle in Bush motorcade involved in accident

URBANA, Md. (AP) — A vehicle in President Bush's motorcade traveling from Washington to the Camp David presidential retreat collided Friday with another car on an icy Interstate, but no one was injured.

Bush typically is flown in the Marine One helicopter from the South Lawn of the White House to Camp David near Thurmont, Md., but rain and snow prevented the flight and the president left in a motorcade a little after 2 p.m. ET.

"The president is fine and his car was not involved in the accident," White House spokeswoman Emily Lawrimore said.

The motorcade, fighting bumper-to-bumper traffic in rain, sleet and snow, was using the shoulder of the highway at times to move northward. At about 3 p.m., a sports utility vehicle in the motorcade slid on ice and collided with a private car, Secret Service spokeswoman Kim Bruce said. Both vehicles spun off the road into the median.

So, Smirky, goes on vacation again.

I wish der chimpenfuhrer would go on a permanent vacation--to the Hague.

15. That's why I was thinking. I've heard this before.
Presidential motorcades are usually awfully safe places, except in Dallas.

2. Using the shoulder of the highway...
...in very poor visibility. God help anyone who might be broken-down on the shoulder. I guess Shrub's sense of entitlement knows no boundries. What's dangerously unsafe for a private citizen, is perfectly fine for Il Dunce.

12. Driving on the shoulder at speed
My family has ranches (real ones) around the idiot's little chunk of land outside of Crawford.

You would just not believe the speeds at which those bozos drive in those motorcades.

They shut down all of the roads and still drive like their asses are on fire.

3. off in Central and South America for a week
and immediately goes to Camp David on return. Gather his thoughts on the good will tour, watch the Chavez interview on TV tonight, or go on a bender to ease the scandal pains? But mostly he is staying out of sight.

33. 75 accidents already reported in the area, they were imperiling commuters safety by
running a motorcade up the shoulder. If the idiot had waited 16 hours he could have flown up without putting normal people's lives in danger. I-270 is a gridlock ready to happen even when the weather is perfect. But, what else should we expect from a regime that is completely out of touch with the realities of this world?

10. Since the roads are so dangerous, why did they even take him out there?
If he wants to relax, he can stay at the White House, tell the staff not to bother him and not have to worry about endangering everybody as they speed along the shoulder of icy roads like lunatics to take him out for a weekend in the country. Is the Secret Service allowed to tell him no when he wants to do something too dangerous to be permitted, or do they have to go along with it?

Traveling on the shoulder puts everyone on the road at risk.

more worthy of headline status if they stuck to: "Flash: Bush is working today".

Then we could all go into duck and cover mode.

The article doesn't say anything about the people who were actually involved in the accident.

He always leaves Washington when he knows there's going to be a big protest. I went to one before the Iraq fiasco he started and he wasn't in town then either.

He's a coward and a chickenshit.
