Air transport regulators warned on Friday that they might ban several EU airlines from entering Russia's airspace because of purported violations of flight rules.
The warning followed a decision earlier this month by the European Union to restrict the entry of nine Russian carriers into the bloc only "under exceptional circumstances and on the basis of tight checks."
Among the nine airlines was UTAir. A UTAir Tu-134 crashed while landing in Samara on Saturday, killing six.
Federal Transportation Inspection Service chief Alexander Neradko sent a letter to the president of the European Civil Aviation Conference on Friday, warning of the possible restrictions because of what he said were violations of Russian flight regulations, agency spokesman Andrei Pryanishnikov said.
