Bush to make statement on Iraq war 3 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Monday marked the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq, which has stretched longer with higher costs than the White House ever expected.

Bush planned to make a statement on the war in an appearance in the Roosevelt Room.

The president also was to meet with his National Security Council on the war and hold a closed-circuit television conference call with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad.

Bush to make Iraq anniversary statement 10 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush will make a brief statement at 11:30 am (1530 GMT) on the fourth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, a White House spokeswoman said Monday.

~snip~

"Then, at 11:30, the president will make a statement on the fourth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq in the Roosevelt Room. It will last about five minutes and he will take no questions," she told AFP by telephone.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070319/wl_afp/usiraqbushanniversary_070319125636

Why doesn't he just release a statement if he's not going to take questions. Chickenshit chickenhawk.

18. If he ignores the Gonzales issue he winds up highlighting its urgency,
and making himself look even MORE incompetent than he already does, which is no small task.

Media coverage the rest of the day will glance at the Iraq anniversary coverage but will consistently note that Bush failed to address the DoJ scandal.

67. I can barely tolerate listening to him . . .
. . . glad I wasn't able to today.

Like most of us here, I was brought up with the idea that you simply don't HATE anybody.

That philosophy, sadly, is out the window with this bunch of thugs. For every time I hear of an elderly protestor being beaten by "policemen", or a whole factory of jobs sent overseas, an entire nation destroyed for its oil, or filth spewing from the likes of Malkin and Limpballs, it is patently clear that it is the neocon "philosophy" that enables and encourages this fascist crap.

And on top of that, my best friend in the world since high school is a petite lesbian. Who travels all over the midwest as a rep. I'm scared shitless that someone is going to get rough with her.

Then you'll hear about a 48 year-old man that just wound up in jail for beating some thug to a pulp.

Life in this country has completely changed. I no longer even recognize this place.

End of rant.;)

Take care, Alyce.

One and only brief cameo appearance by Batman actor Adam West in a walk-on role as the Ghost of a Dead Astronaut. Costars a talkative rhesus monkey and a mute, half-naked guy in a wig. Recycled George Paul "War of the Worlds" (1953) special effects. Outstanding late-night viewing in any language.

20. Preview: "I'm proud we have free speech here in the US of A, but
see?...what the protest marchers don't understand is that our enemies over there want to come over here now, more than ever, but the good news is that the surge is stopping 'em in their tracks.

Sure, It's hard work, very hard work but most americans agree it's worth it. And now, we gotta keep our promise to the troops and continue our success in Iraq by sending 20,000 more in. Thats why Congress voted to give me the funds I need to keep supporting our troops. If the Democrat Party keeps playing their politicking games, like cutting off the funds for the troops and making it harder to get food and weapons to Iraq, more of our troops are gonna die.

They're the politickers, I'm the decider. Look, It's never easy to make the hard decisions, but thats my job... it's what I do..make the hard decisions. I know how hard it is on the families and I feel their pains. But on 9/11 I swore to America that we wouldn't stop until we defeated the cowards who attacked us, and we are very close. We are turning the corner.

Blah, blah blah, woof woof woof.
Oh and by the way, Bertie's doin a heckuva job. Blah blah blah "

Bush to ask for patience in Iraq war
By BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush marked the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq on Monday as the White House tried to counter Democratic attempts to force a withdrawal of U.S. troops.

Bush was expected to issue a plea for more patience in the war, which has stretched longer with higher costs than the White House ever anticipated. The president was to make a statement in the Roosevelt Room.

"It can be tempting to look at the challenges in Iraq and conclude that our best option is to pack up and go home," Bush was to say, according to an administration official who saw an advance text of his remarks. "While that may be satisfying in the short run, the consequences for American security would be devastating."

From the PNAC "Statement of Principles:

"But we cannot safely avoid the responsibilities of global leadership or the costs that are associated with its exercise."

http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm

In the PNAC's sociopathic quest for global corporate governance, no cost, in blood, or in the taxes on our labor, is too high; these vampires have no allegiance to us or to our country. Their allegiance is to private global economic interests, and they will kill off or maim all of our kids, bankrupt our nation, and destroy our planet before they abandon their plan for global fascism.

The PNAC is a nest of crocodiles that will continue, and/or attempt to continue, to prey on us until we try, convict, and imprison them for their crimes against humanity.

47. Just some new outrage to make us forget Gonzales, just as Gonzales pushed Plame
off the front burner, and Plame pushed the Surge off the front burner, and the Surge pushed something else off the burner.

This is one of the most clever administrations I've ever seen. They don't bother defending themselves on any given scandal, they just create a new scandal to make people forget about the old one. We are chasing a can around in circles, unaware that it's tied to our tales. I sometimes wonder if we stopped chasing, maybe someone would spot the can and remove it for us. Every time our Dem Congress starts an investigation into one thing, half the liberals start screaming they will never support the Democratic Party ever again because they aren't doing anything about the next scandal. Thus, every time the party tries to remove the can, Bush kicks it and we start chasing again.

Statement by President Bush on the 4th Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq 31 minutes ago

WASHINGTON, March 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by President Bush on the 4th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq:

Roosevelt Room

11:30 A.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. Four years ago today, coalition forces launched Operation Iraqi Freedom to remove Saddam Hussein from power. They did so to eliminate the threat his regime posed to the Middle East and to the world. Coalition forces carried out that mission with great courage and skill. Today the world is rid of Saddam Hussein and a tyrant has been held to account for his crimes by his own people.

Nearly 12 million Iraqis have voted in free elections under a democratic constitution that they wrote for themselves. And their democratic leaders are now working to build a free society that upholds the rule of law, that respects the rights of its people, that provides them security and is an ally in the war on terror.

At this point in the war, our most important mission is helping the Iraqis secure their capital. Until Baghdad's citizens feel secure in their own homes and neighborhoods, it will be difficult for Iraqis to make further progress toward political reconciliation or economic rebuilding, steps necessary for Iraq to build a democratic society.

So with our help, Iraq's government is carrying out an aggressive plan to secure Baghdad. And we're continuing to train the Iraqi security forces so that they ultimately take full responsibility for the security of their own people.

64. They broke out THAT old speech again. Gawd, this is like Hogan's Heroes where Schultz always asks
"Didn't der Fuhrer give that speech last time?" as Hogan plays an old record of hitler.
