U.S. Intelligence Learn of Suicide Bombing Threat to New York (ABC)
Dec. 19— U.S. intelligence has received information about a credible and imminent threat to New York City, ABCNEWS has learned.

Sources say the threat involves a suicide bomber, possibly a female. The information was received through communication intercepts, and no specific target has been identified. Discussions between local and federal law enforcement officials are currently under way to develop a response.

1. This might be real, but...
we'll never know unless something happens. There's simply no reason to trust Bushco.

3. Yikes
I am going to be doing the 5th ave x-mas thing tomorrow (start at the Plaza and walk down, see all the windows and the Rockefeller tree). An annual tradition with my oldest and dearest friend. It's also my birthday.

Take care.

17. No intention of changing plans
Can't stop living life. I think NYers have gotten used to the idea we are a target and while I don't discount the threat (I don't think anyone who watched the towers fall live can), I still do the subway and go wherever I want. To be honest, more than a few of us are surprised we haven't been hit with a suicide bomber yet.

Thanks for the b-day wishes.

16. Have a happy birthday and just be alert
but don't change your plans. There's a woman in my office who's daughter in law has not brought her granddaughter into the city since 9/11 because she's afraid of terrorism. Yesterday at a birthday party in "safe" Staten Island, the little girl's appendix burst and she had to be rushed into surgery. She's going to be fine, but my point is anything can happen to anyone anywhere anytime. Dr. Atkins slipped on a patch of ice. People drown in their bathtubs.

Chances are nothing will happen - enjoy the holidays, enjoy your birthday. LIVE.

13. And if it's real, will we be able to stop it? And if it's not...how much
resources are we going to spend finding out. This is the "war on terror." Fear, threats, and sapping much needed resources.

What news of what Shrub-connected business scandal NOW?

Really, I mean we see this shit EVERY time Karl Rove needs to sweep some unpleasentness under the rug quickly. Something breaks in the news, a spokesperson for the secreted and undisclosed Vice-President TinMan denies it, then out comes Tommy Timber-Toes to tell us that the "Chatter" is deafening...

Be on your guard, but fly, shop in tall buildings, go to sporting events anyway. Especially, keep shopping, because if the stores don't make 15% this 1/4, the terra-ists win.....

The Al-queda likes to strike on holidays and anniverseries
They were poised to strike on the millenium but were thwarted. With the string of holidays that are coming upon on us, I would be aware.

Sorry if I sound like I am fearmongering, just thinking out loud.

Tonight is the first night of Channukah and the biggest crowds are at the tree in Rock Center. But it's a holiday tradition and I'll be there.

31. Their interest in the millenium wasn't just because of the year
It was the huge crowds of people gathering in west coast cities. They want either a symbolic target--e.g. Disneyland, Statue of Liberty, or a high body count. If this is a real threat (always doubtful with this administration), then New Year's in Time Square would be a prime target.

29. No Credible Threat Seen in New York - NYC Police (Reuters)
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20031219/ts_nm/security_threat_newyork_dc_1

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Police have "no credible intelligence" of a terrorist threat to New York, a police spokesman said in a statement on Friday after U.S. officials in Washington said they were gauging a possible threat.

"The New York City Police Department has no credible intelligence pointing to a specific or imminent terrorist threat to New York City," said the statement by Michael O'Looney, spokesman for Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Umm, so what exactly is going on here? Why didn't DHS inform NYC authorities? Or did something leak that shouldn't have... or, is it a hoax?

Interesting the way the major media outlets are burying this story all of a sudden.

30. curious indeed
this appears to be a bunch of B.S. remember the recent article posted here saying we were too complacent inregards to terrorism. So it's time to beef up on the fear factor. I really hope nothing happens due to terrorism or some created disaster by our man in the white house. I am planning to move to New York for awhile in the next month or so.

34. It seems to me the fact that this info was leaked and not announced
shows it's bogus. If the administration is unwilling to say this officially by a source who will take responsibility for the statement, it isn't true. Without an official announcement it's just another red herring.
