Saddam aide 'to hang on Tuesday'

Former Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan is due to be hanged early on Tuesday, his lawyer has told the BBC.

The lawyer, who declined to be named, said Mr Ramadan's family was appealing for clemency from the authorities.

One of Saddam Hussein's co-defendants, he was sentenced to life in jail for his role in the killing of 148 Shias in the 1980s.

But an appeals court later ruled this was too lenient and recommended he should instead face the death penalty.
