GI Gets 10 Years in Deaths of 3 Iraqis
Source: Associated Press

(03-19) 16:06 PDT Fort Campbell, Ky. (AP) --

A soldier accused of ordering subordinates to kill three Iraqi detainees should be sentenced to 10 years in prison, a military jury said Monday.

Staff Sgt. Ray Girouard, who was found guilty Friday of negligent homicide in his court-martial, could have received up to 21 years in prison. He avoided a life sentence when he was found not guilty of premeditated murder.

The military panel also recommended a reduction in his rank, a dishonorable discharge and forfeiture of pay, with a recommendation that the money go to his wife and 4-year-old son.

---
Prosecutors asked jurors to return the maximum sentence, saying Girouard had damaged the Army's image and became the poster child for war crimes in Iraq.

2. So what did the jury think happened?
it says he was accused of telling his soldiers to shoot them, but he denied it. He's guilty of 'negligent homicide'. Does that mean they don't believe he told the soldiers to shoot them, but didn't take proper steps to prevent them shooting the prisoners, or what?

7. Good post. . It also reveals to Muslim public how cheaply we value Iraqi life when compared
to American life, as if they needed any further illustration of that.

8. Using epithets like "they are SandN-----s" etc
Is no way to win friends

But the Chimp and his minions want thugs to enforce their will

As they proceed to loot the natural resources.

That's why the Criminals at Black-water are in such demand too

9. Well, that's that; three dead, ten years
40 months per life taken, which is how this is going to play in other countries. I'm sure our good friends the Iraqis, the Iranians, the Saudis, the Lebanese, the Syrians, the Jordanians, the Egyptians and all the rest throughout the Muslim world will appreciate just how highly we value their lives. The governments of those countries will surely be able to rein in the hotheads and malcontents who think the sentence was too light, particularly when weighed against the incarceration of their own nationals by our government at Guantanamo without charge, counsel or trial. And they'll surely appreciate our humanitarian concern for Mr. Girouard's family in making sure they're still drawing his pay.
