PG wins $19.25 million in Satanism suit
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 10:14 AM by RamboLiberal
Source: MSNBC

Procter & Gamble Co. has won a jury award of $19.25 million in a civil lawsuit filed against four former Amway distributors accused of spreading false rumors linking the company to Satanism to advance their own business.

The U.S. District Court jury in Salt Lake City on Friday found in favor of the Cincinnati-based consumer products company in a lawsuit filed by P&G in 1995. It was one of several the company brought over rumors alleging a link with the company’s logo and Satanism.

Rumors had begun circulating as early as 1981 that the company’s logo — a bearded, crescent man-in-moon looking over a field of 13 stars — was a symbol of Satanism.

The company alleged that Amway Corp. distributors revived those rumors in 1995, using a voice mail system to tell thousands of customers that part of Procter & Gamble profits went to satanic cults.

2. Sleazoid tactics associated with the Amway organization?
Playing upon the gullibility of poorly informed people? Just plain making shit up?

Shocking.

4. Every day I read something that just makes me more depressed
and disgusted with the continually diminishing I.Q. of the American people.

Everybody knows it's Amway Corp. that's a front for the Devil.

6. As a 13 year old, I poured "Pert" down the drain because my fundy church
told me PG was a satanic organization (because of the logo, which I think they no longer use).

Now if they would just quit testing on animals......

10. Are you sure they test on animals?
I'm finding conflicting information. They've received awards from the Humane Society for NOT testing on animals, AND they're rated highly on the Calvert Social Index which rates companies on social responsibility.

Perhaps this is another Amway conspiracy. Are YOU an Amway agent?

:D

Honestly, I can't remember where I heard/read that. So it's possible that my information is outdated. That would be great if it was. I'd like to support them against the fundy crazies.

on edit: I was so shaken by my exposure as a secret Amway agent that my fingers fumbled on the keys!!

9. Always knew rumors were nonsense
I always knew these rumors were fundie nonsense. They've been around since the 1970s or 80s.

This doesn't mean that I particularly care for P&G. They make huge margins on their products.

12. My father used to be in Amway.
He swears, to this very day, that Amway itself is a cult. He likes to tell me about how creepy the people are at their conventions, and you never, ever say anything bad about the company. There's hell to pay if you do.

15. From Snopes:
Those who accept the rumor as revealed truth point to P&G's "man in the moon" logo as proof of the company's ties to evil.

They see in the curlicues of the moon man's beard an array of 6s and believe that by playing "connect the dots" with the thirteen stars in the logo, three 6's can be made to appear. (According to Revelation 13:18 666 is the "mark of the Beast", with the "beast" understood to be the devil.)
