(Jean) Schmidt: (Walter Reed) Scandal 'overblown'
Source: Cincinnatti Enquirer

Rep. Jean Schmidt wrote in her weekly column sent out to reporters on Monday that stories about horrible conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center were "overblown."

Schmidt, a Clermont County Republican, decided to take "several hours" to travel to the hospital in Washington, D.C., to see the situation "first hand."...

"I found the situation at Walter Reed to be overblown by both politicians and the media."

Schmidt wrote that in her tour of all four outpatient housing facilities, she was "pleasantly surprised to find that three of the buildings contained clean living spaces, updated television and computer access, and full access to cooking units or cafeterias."

2. no testimony from the soldiers? no comments on the photos we've
seen? no admissions of mold or rats?

Was she speaking on behalf of the contractor or Rumsfeld?

3. As far as I am concerned ...
In light of what the patients at that center have been put through, anything short of pristine is unacceptable. It's just like Schmidt to shill, even when facts are smacking her upside the head.

taking note of the areas she is allowed to visit and "inspect" . .

Edited on Wed Mar-21-07 08:31 AM by il_lilac

I think you should be able to go anywhere in a hospital and find clean living spaces!!! I'm sure that things have improved since this story broke. Too bad that's what it took to make it right.

11. We need to start looking at how Germany treats far RW'ers
that is to marginalize and even to outlaw them. Outlawing far right wingers is the only true solution to dealing with them. They are nuts and there is no sane reason to give the insane a voice. That is where we, as liberals, have our downfall in dealing with them. We want to be too fair. Their views are insane and should be treated as such including outlawing their views and beliefs.

15. If the US Acted and Spent Money Like a Liberal Nation
the right wing would not have a leg to stand on. They wouldn't be able to attract the support of the ignorant and hateful, because there wouldn't be any (outside of hospitals).

17. I live in the 2nd Congressional District in Ohio...
and I can tell you 49% of the voters in this district don't like her and that includes me. We did not vote for her and we don't support her. Now for the other 51% in the district, they are complete assholes, and that is another problem all together!

19. I know you live there but this 49 VS 51% thing sounds like
an other one of the thousands of BS things that you'd have to believe if you don't accept that election fraud is happening.

I can't believe that she came by her post honestly.

18. The vote between Schmidt and Hackett was practically 50:50
Half the people there can't stand her, and I suspect that she's going to be even more vulnerable in 2008.

23. We can only hope...
I would like to see Wulsin run again. She came so close to winning but at the end a large sum of money was directed to Schmidt's campaign by the republican party and it did make a difference. She does have a tendency to open her mouth and say some really stupid things.

26. Doesn't she also represent the Ethnically German-American hold on the county as well?

I recall reading that the political machine in the area had an ethnic component to it too.

Is this true or am I mistaken?

lots and lots of the power names in town are german.

there's a cincy history book called "vas you ever in zinzinnati?".
