Lieberman Calls Dean a 'Divisive Leader'

NEWARK, Del. - Presidential hopeful Joe Lieberman (news - web sites) warned Friday against replacing "one divisive leader with another divisive leader," a swipe at both President Bush (news - web sites) and the front-runner for the Democratic Party's nomination, Howard Dean (news - web sites).

Voters in 2000 were almost evenly divided between Bush and the Democratic ticket of former Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites) and Lieberman. Bush eventually prevailed in one of the closest presidential elections in history.

Lieberman, a Connecticut senator struggling in the race to gain the 2004 nomination, on Friday added to his earlier criticism that Dean was taking Democrats backward by arguing that the former Vermont governor was a divisive force within the party.

"We're too divided," Lieberman said as he toured a technology plant in Delaware. "I don't want to replace one divisive leader with another divisive leader."

Sure, ABB.. However, whomever wins the GENERAL ELECTION is supposed to be the representative of ALL of us. Not just Democrats. Question is, does Dean(or others) cut the mustard? Does he come close enough?

Since Joe supports Bush on the war, and sponsored his 'religion-in-government' legislation in the Senate, if the Democratic nominee is Dean, will Joe endorse Bush?

And remember, it was Lieberman's "count all the military votes" commnet in Florida (even the late, unsigned ballots) that went a long way to giving last election to Bush. No wonder Gore wants nothing to do with this guy.

Considering all this, I think it is likely Lieberman will endorse Bush if the Democrats pick Dean.

7. The Hebron, CT Dem Town Committee attacked the Lieberman and Kerry

reps at their meeting for Lieberman and Kerry attacking Dean. My fellow Dean 2nd Congressional District coordinator represented the Dean campaign at that meeting. He said that the Lieberman rep said that their fundraising increased after the Gore endorsement of Dean. My friend in his spiel said that within a week, Dean's supporters raised over a million dollars -- under $700,000 for Gore and $550,000 plus for the vindictive misleading ads by Gephardt and Kerry supporters -- and asked the Lieberman rep if Joe raise that much. Lieberman's rep declined to respond.

Maybe that's the divisiveness Lieberman was talking about but from Hebron, CT's view point it was Lieberman and Kerry being the divisive ones.

Which is interesting, in a way. Interesting in a car-crash of a post-mortem kinda way. Interesting since we've all been watching Lieberman get so much coverage bashing people post-Saddam. Equal time? Is Dean as divisive as Bush when the scope changes to a national one in the general election? I don't think so. Bush is the world champ (and I do mean world champ) in divisiveness.

There are a million ways to achieve divisiveness. It is the default situation of mankind, IMO. Anyone can produce it easily, either intentionally or through incompetence. Bush/Rove Incorporated is the leading global franchise right now.
