U.S. Suggests Cutting Abramoff Sentence
Source: AP

MIAMI -- Federal prosecutors took the first steps toward reducing the prison sentence of former Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff, currently scheduled for release in 2011 for a Florida fraud conviction.

Documents filed in federal court say Abramoff has provided "substantial assistance" in a separate Washington corruption scandal investigation and continues to work with investigators from his prison cell in Cumberland, Md.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul F. Schwartz did not recommend how much Abramoff's sentence should be cut.

In the court papers filed Wednesday, Schwartz said prosecutors would recommend a reduction in his sentence and would file further documents describing the "nature, extent and value" of his cooperation.

2. I expect he will be given time off for good behavior.
I've wondered if he would ever be held accountable for his "deeds". Money talks and many folks are trying to shut him up, using their influence.Jack has the upper hand , at this point.

3. And Where Was Paul F. Schwartz Rated On This Famous List Of USA's Around....
the country. He wasn't fired - so therefore I have to believe that he is being led by the nose of *Co on this matter.

See - my suspicion on this. This is why we need to subpoena Rove & Meiers & Kyle and get to the bottom of this or else anytime any matter comes up - like this Abramoff sentence reduction - the public will always be suspicious.

Gonzo needs to go. Rove needs to go. Dick and the Chimp need to go. Then maybe - just maybe - we can turn this around and believe in the system again.

4. La-la-la-LA-la-la.
He's warming up for his concert tour called "Abramoff Sings!" Playing at a Federal courthouse or Congressional committee near you. He'll be performing favorites like the raucus "Spilling of the Beans," the poigniant ballad "Where the Bodies Are Buried" and a choral rendition of Beethoven's Fifth Amendment Symphony.

7. Maybe the song Abramoff is singing is more like "Paint it Black"
Surely he has an enlightening verse or two

"on the firing of Guam US Attorney Frederick A. Black who had just launched a probe into the activities of Jack Abramoff. Black had been Attorney General for more than a decade but was fired the day after he issued subpoenas related to a series of $9,000 checks issued to Abramoff."

9. I love how the good ole boy media says "US", as if the "US" wants such ammoral scum out of jail.
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 02:50 PM by shance
The "US" would like to see Mr. Abramoff rot in jail forever.

The Bush/Exclusive rich white male media wants him out so they can continue their carpet baggging of everyone they can swindle.

22. This is bull. The "nature, extent and value" of his cooperation had better be front page news
It looks for all the world like the neocons gamed our democracy and defrauded us of legitimate government. The Abramoff scandal broke years ago. A few years sentence here, a couple of resignations...not good enough. They whisked Cunningham away pretty quickly, but people like Delay don't appear to even be going to trial. No more behind closed doors, winking and nodding and making deals. This citizen has lost faith in government and the rule of law. I know that one of the principles in justice is to keep the appearance of fairness and faith of the peasants in the rule of law. This seems like the rich and powerful are above it.
