http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2003/12/19/national1723EST0644.DTL

14:23 PST Washington (AP)

President Bush is making his fourth trip to Mexico next month to attend the Summit of the Americas meeting in Monterrey.

Bush will be in the Mexican state of Baja California for two days, starting Jan. 12, the White House said Friday.

"The special summit will provide an opportunity for the democratically elected leaders of the hemisphere to meet together to discuss our shared interests in strengthening democracy and promoting prosperity and development throughout the hemisphere," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

1. How sad...
"democratically elected leaders"?

"strengthening democracy and promoting prosperity and development"?

Quotes like these piss me off.

3. I hope he stays sober this time
That visit to Cabo where he insulted Fox was really an embarrassment...

4. and I hope Fox puts the immigrant workers issues back on the table,
there was a window for realistic cooperation back then and Bush blew it off (pet peeve of mine, I live in CA).

What we're left with is an Israeliesque wall...

7. At the last summit, they sat him at the end of the dinner table
They arranged the guests in alphabetical order so he was stuck down on the end. He was criticized for only wanting to talk about terror and Iraq when they needed some dialogue on economics.

Wasn't that when he ended a press conf when someone's cell went off?

There may be tension over Iraq, but I'd bet most would come from Fox's refusal to let US companies invest in Mexican oil.

8. Baja California, the place NOT to be: let the riots begin Junior's coming!

. . with the Cowboy's "popularity" well known around the world, I cannot see why ANYONE lets him in their country ?

. . Wonder how much the security around the pResident will cost those poor Mexicans ?

I think they should use that pig farm for all Junior's meetings. Junior doesn't exactly spread "Peace and GoodWill" wherever he goes !!

And Georgie-Boy should pay for his security out of his OWN pocket, not the taxpayers. After all he is a "self-made man" (had a hard time typing that word "man") - and should reap the "rewards" such as they are.

9. The biggest danger here
with Bush being back in Mexico is that he'll get drunk and disappear again. Karl Rove's worst nightmare is that he'll be found in La Zona Rosa with 2 drunk whores.

11. UNBREAKING NEWS
The weekly Guadalajara/Chapala Colony Reporter, a newspaper directed to the estimated 50,000 strong local gringo expatriate community, diligently covers matters of interest between our chosen nation and the shark of the north. This morning's edition makes no mention of the upcoming Bush visit.
