TRENTON, N.J. -- New Jersey Gov. James E. McGreevey endorsed Howard Dean for the Democratic nomination for president on Friday, saying the former Vermont governor shares his support for middle-class families.
Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J., joined McGreevey in endorsing Dean at a morning rally with more than 50 state and local party officials.
With its primary scheduled for June 8, New Jersey joins Montana as the last states to choose delegates for the Democratic National Convention in Boston in July. The early endorsements by McGreevey and Holt help the state push its agenda with the national campaign, party officials said.
The Dean campaign has been seeking support from Democratic governors and others in the party, hoping to build on the momentum from Dean's endorsement by former Vice President Al Gore.
