Russian intelligence sees U.S. military buildup on Iran border
Source: RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, March 27 (RIA Novosti) - Russian military intelligence services are reporting a flurry of activity by U.S. Armed Forces near Iran's borders, a high-ranking security source said Tuesday.

"The latest military intelligence data point to heightened U.S. military preparations for both an air and ground operation against Iran," the official said, adding that the Pentagon has probably not yet made a final decision as to when an attack will be launched.

He said the Pentagon is looking for a way to deliver a strike against Iran "that would enable the Americans to bring the country to its knees at minimal cost."

He also said the U.S. Naval presence in the Persian Gulf has for the first time in the past four years reached the level that existed shortly before the invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

4. Actually they were planned, that part is true
I distinctly remember reading about them a few months ago in relation to an article warning about the possibility of an invasion of Iran being planned in April.

3. "bring the country to its knees at minimal cost"
These loons never learn. It's like an article of faith with them that bombing is all you need. You just cannot get any more stupid than this. This has been tried recently in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, and it failed every time to "bring the country to its knees at minimal cost", but this time it gonna work, yep ...

5. Is Jane's Defense, or any other military monitor with a credible history
saying anything about this?

It's not that I think what is reported is impossible, I just want more than one source (particularly when the one is Novisti which I don't know) about something like this.

6. I've seen no other reports on this however RIA Novosti is a pretty reliable Russian news source.
I've been referencing their site for at least a year and can't think of a report that proved to be false.

Stay tuned...

7. this would be the last straw
without congressional and un approval this action would be completely unjustifiable and blatantly illegal. id be on the first bus to dc and i wouldnt come back until he was out of office. i suspect i would not be alone in this venture either

8. Russian military should post videos on MetaCafe, YouTube, et al
Then we can all see the troops and equipment for ourselves.

It would be WAY cool if Google Earth gave us real-time images of any area on Earth.

19. Realtime is a bit too much asked
Edited on Wed Mar-28-07 08:30 AM by Crayson
... if you mean a video stream by "real time".
That would require a lot more surveillance satellites to cover every spot of the earth every time.
But I would already be satisfied to have new immages every day.
But that's the kind of news/control a nation can't afford to give away to its population.

Imagine you would'nt buy all that "embedded repoter" crap anymore.

9. Just like with the FIRST Gulf War back in 1990.
Of course, back then, the so-called MSM was even less likely report this because of all the anti-Russian, "Cold War" rhetoric still being thrown about, so it was never questioned.

10. bwa ha ha, well, the gods are against it! that tsunami disrupted our
supply lines in Diego Garcia (where the US, UK, and aussie bastards are staging their iran attack). what, didn't hear about it? they say the US military ordered a msm blackout of this particular news for that very reason. The tsunami that hit somalia followed the 7.9 EQ in the indian ocean.

hopefully this sets the bastards back on their heels a bit.

11. Sort of like "shock and awe", which turned out well.
Anything short of a nuke or a surprise large scale carpet bombing of the entire country will not bring Iran to their knees. They will become even more steadfast in the hate of us, and actually would cause us even more death, economic strains and would signal the end of the US as the leader of the world. We will have become Nazi Germany.

15. The Bagdad troop surge at work IMHO
It was not about bringing Iraq to a state of relative peace. It was an excuse to use 20,000 troops to invade Iran. Go with the military you have, not the one you want is how they stated it last time. He said the Pentagon is looking for a way to deliver a strike against Iran "that would enable the Americans to bring the country to its knees at minimal cost."

have read, they seem to be getting quit aggitated with what the US is doing. Chimp may want to take a long hard look at his neocon idiology before he continues on this one.
