AFPWounded Iraqi deputy PM transferred to Jordan 1 hour, 26 minutes ago
AMMAN (AFP) - Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Salam al-Zubayi was admitted to hospital in Jordan on Wednesday after surviving an assassination attempt in Baghdad last week, Iraq's ambassador said.
"Zubayi arrived today at noon and was admitted at the King Hussein Medical Centre, where he underwent tests," Saad Jassem al-Hayyani told AFP. "He is in stable condition and undergoing treatment in the internal medicine section."
Zubayi underwent surgery in a US military hospital in Baghdad earlier this week to remove shrapnel from his chest following a two-pronged assassination bid inside his personal compound on March 23 in the Iraqi capital.
Zubayi is a moderate Sunni Muslim and one of two deputy prime ministers in the Shiite-led government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

On Monday his office in Baghdad had said that his health "has seen drastic improvement and the deputy prime minister will leave hospital shortly" but provided no further details on his condition.
