Anti-war group in McLennan County loses it’s corporate status
Source: KCEN TV 6 NBC affiliate

A nationally known anti-war group in Mclennan County has lost its corporate status with the state, and a former member is calling for an investigation.

Officials in the Texas State Comptroller's office said the Crawford Peace House hasn't handed in required paperwork in nearly a year.

The Crawford Peace House is no longer an organization in the eyes of the state, and why that's happened is coming into question by former members.

1. Getting it back is as simple as submitting the paperwork.
The danger to those involved is in the last sentence: "A spokesperson for the Texas Comptroller said if a Texas corporate charter is forfeited, officers or directors can become personally liable for any debts incurred by that entity.

One of the directors of the Peace House is Cindy Sheehan."

3. It would be interesting to hear the other side... Have they submitted
any paperwork. If not shame on them.

6. An early joining member of the Peace House. She was active in Waco before
Camp Casey and was a member of the "Honor Guard" protecting Camp Casey when Sheehan went on the first national tour. She sounds like an early and knowledgeable member that is upset over damn near $700K disappearing. This looks dirty.

9. It's overblown
Made some calls today and got the dirty details. This is a nutty woman on a revenge campaign. It looks like if Cindy's name wasn't connected to the Peace House, this story would have gotten zero media attention.

10. Sara Oliver became "nutty" when? After she questioned the disappearance of $700K?
She wasn't "nutty" when she was one of the "Honor Guards" protecting camp Casey was she?

Prove she is nutty and document the missing money. Funny, they aren't addressing the charges. Hmmmmmmm

19. There was never $700,000., nor an "honor guard". Sara Oliver was
never a knowledgeable member. The only dirt is what Sara is throwing around, rather uselessly.

12. Wrong equation
For Profit Corporations = evil

Non-Profit Corporations = Depends on what they do

Pacific Legal Foundation = Evil
Sierra Club = on the fence
Crawford House = Probably good

13. For profit is evil?
What typical DU bullshit. Yes, the corporate culture in this county is sick and corrupt, but there are people who are trying to change that. In fact, in my state there are several corporations that do good things, both in changing the state of corporate culture and being good local, national and global citizens.

21. Not typical DU bullshit, just a wrong choice of words...
at best, Corporations are amoral, not necessarily evil, but not good either. To put it another way, corporations are about as moral as animals. Most exist to survive, and, generally, the impact left behind is small, its the big ones, that consume more than they give back, that are the problem, and the ones that resemble rabid dogs that should be put down.

Another thing, corporations are impersonal organizations NOT CITIZENS, and we should STOP using such language to empower them, for if you give them an inch, they will take a mile, and destroy the next 100 miles after that.

14. my issue with the crawford house
These words from their "corporation" really irk me and my Jewish half of my family...

"...he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel."

as bad as the war is and the obvious creators of it, we don't need this crap being
carried into modern times. hitler is dead and let's keep it that way.

15. In this country we tend to elide the difference between the people
and those presently in government -- here, in Israel, everywhere. And, that's a mistake.

Israeli right wing hawks are as dangerous to Israelis (and to us) as our right wing hawks are to us (and to the Israeli people). The distinction is an important one and imho, it doesn't get made very often.

20. Oh please. Give that one up. The Crawford Peace House and
Cindy are seperate.

The Crawford Peace House has been in existence since March of 2003, long before Cindy came to town.

16. Detailed article on IndyMedia
The North Texas IndyMedia has done a detailed article explaining the "crapfest", on
http://www.ntimc.org/newswire.php?story_id=5400

The comments after the article are also interesting. One of them is by one of the people the attackers cited for evidence of embezzlement, and she sez no way.
