Pelosi tells Bush to ‘calm down threats’
Source: The Hill

Heading toward a potential confrontation over how to pay for the war in Iraq and whether to end U.S. involvement by a certain date, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told President Bush yesterday to “calm down with the threats,” and twice urged him to “take a deep breath.”

.....“Calm down with the threats …There is a new Congress in town …We respect your constitutional role, we want you to respect ours.”

Lawmakers from both parties were thinking about a post-vetoed spending bill political strategy and wondering how a “Pentagon shutdown” would play out politically.
...
Meanwhile, Pelosi and Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced yesterday that they would create a National Security Advisory Group to study the U.S. national security since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

3. Yes - it would be riotously funny, if not so absolutely necessary
Somebody needed to tell Commander AWOL Jr. to take a chill pill, and grow up.

Thank you, Speaker Pelosi, for speaking with that twisted, uptight Puer Eternis, Commander AWOL

6. If the tables were turned
and a Democratic president were doing the finger wagging. The gop mouthpieces, Gingrich and Lott, would be indignantly doomsday crying, threatening hellfire and damnation for the party in charge. Adeptly tomb-stoning the Demo Party as the scourge of the Earth not only responsible for Katrina but Global Warming as well.

7. A "Pentagon shutdown"
Now that's something to work towards. That would benefit the whole world!

8. You know what sounds really good?
The return of the use of the word "national," as in "National Security Advisory Group." Everytime I hear "homeland," I feel queasy, not only because of bad memories/associations here in the U.S.A, but because it's reminiscent of Vaterland and Nazi Germany.

12. There's a very good analysis
of the psychopolitics/symbolics/semantics of extreme-right in Wilhelm Reich's "Mass-psychology of fascism" (1933, banned simultaneously by nazis and so-called "communists".) Old but unfortunately relevant.

9. Pelosi's response is a D- so far.
Bush's tactic has been to deceive and attack. Her response is to say "Don't talk to us that way." So there is no fight. One side (Bush's) garners headlines and its lies sink in. The other side gets what, "comportment" points?
