Iran-Note of Protest
By sending a formal note to the British embassy in Tehran, the Islamic Republic
of Iran protested about raiding Iranian consulate in Basra by British forces.
According to Foreign Ministry Media Department report, an official said following
the incident of shooting to Iran's consulate in the Iraqi city of Basra last
Tuesday, the note of protest was given to British embassy in Tehran.
The official said, in the note, Iran has asked Britain to prevent such actions in
the future and respect international laws regarding diplomatic buildings.
The note was also given to Iran's Mission to the United Nations in New York to
be registered as an official document of the UN.

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran has sent a formal letter to the British Embassy in Tehran
protesting an alleged incident in which British troops surrounded an Iranian consulate
in Iraq and fired shots into the air, Iran's state news agency IRNA reported Sunday
on its Web site.
Britain has denied any aggressive action, saying the shooting was an exchange of
gunfire after British troops on a foot patrol near the Iranian consulate were ambushed.
