The union representing hotel workers filed an unfair labor practices complaint Wednesday against operators of the Los Angeles Airport Hilton Hotel, accusing the hotel of firing two workers for union organizing activities.
A May 14 hearing has been set by the National Labor Relations Board into the complaint filed by UNITE Here on behalf of Michael Kaib and Alicia Melgarejo. Kaib and Melgarejo were fired by the hotel earlier this month. The NLRB will review their firings as well as the dismissal of several other employees.
Kaib said a hotel manager pushed him last year after he complained about the need for better equipment at the hotel. He said he was fired after he was arrested for participating in a picket line.
"They said I was fired for hitting a security guard," Kaib said. "The hotel is doing this to try to scare us."
