French prosecutor examines possible Cheney prosecution: paper
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 02:23 PM by Spazito
PARIS (AFP) - A French prosecutor is examining whether to prosecute US Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) over alleged complicity in the abuse of corporate assets dating from the time he was head of the services company Halliburton, the French newspaper Le Figaro said.

The case stems from a contract by a consortium including the American company Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR), a Halliburton subsidiary, and a French company, Technip, to supply a gas complex to Nigeria, the newspaper reported.

A Paris investigating magistrate has been conducting investigations since October into allegations that 180 million dollars (144 million euros) were paid in secret commissions during the late 1990s up to 2002 from funds established by the consortium in Madeira, the report said.

Cheney was Halliburton's chief executive between 1995 and 2000.

2. Vive la France!
If the US cannot police itself, then it's our first and best ally to the rescue. Somehow, it would be more than fitting if France started to unravel this whole illegal thug regime.

18. When ya have Thomas Kean heading the 911 Investigation,
and rats like John D. Negroponte, as Ambassador to the United Nations. A Supreme Court that rules in junior's favor. A Congress and Senate that will give junior anything he ask for! And a war chest with 200 million dollars for his re-election. And an asshole Democrat that runs around the country calling Howard Dean names.

The foot that is draggin us down is called 'Big Foot'

What do you suggest? I'm lost for an answer!

5. We can only hope that something will come of this, but my hopes are low
Taken from the above link:

<snip>
In a letter to the attorney-general's department, magistrate Reynaud van Ruymbeke ruled out directly prosecuting Cheney on a charge of bribing foreign officials, Le Figaro said.

But the official did not exclude the possibility of prosecution on the grounds of complicity in misuse of corporate assets, it added.
