Gonzales says doesn't recall U.S. attorney firing talk 14 minutes ago

BOSTON (Reuters) - U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said on Friday he did not recall being involved in talks on dismissing individual federal prosecutors, countering testimony to Congress on Thursday by a former aide that he was involved in such discussions.

"I don't recall being involved in deliberations involving the question of whether or not a U.S. attorney should or should not be asked to resign," he told reporters in Boston.

The dismissals have triggered calls for Gonzales to resign. The administration contends they were justified, based largely on performance or policy differences, but critics charge they were politically motivated.

Gonzales defends his role in firings By DENISE LAVOIE, Associated Press Writer
1 minute ago

BOSTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, amid a growing clamor for his resignation, acknowledged Friday confusion about of his role in firing eight U.S. attorneys but said he doesn't "recall being involved in deliberations" over which prosecutors were to be ousted.

"I believe in truth and accountability and every step that I've taken is consistent with that principle," Gonzales said when asked why he is not heeding calls to resign. "I am fighting for the truth as well."

Gonzales said he had his former chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, coordinated performance evaluations for the 93 U.S. attorneys "to see where changes might be appropriate."

"I signed off on the recommendations and signed off on the implementation plan, and that's the extent of my involvement," he told reporters after a holding a round-table discussion in the U.S. attorney's office here with state and federal law enforcement officials about a Justice Department initiative to thwart online predators.

1. You know ...
I'm beginning to think that our country is ruled by amnesiacs. Whenever something sensitive comes up, they don't deny that it happened. They deny recalling that it happened.

Except he had Alzheimer's so it's possible he was telling the truth there. I somehow doubt this many members of this admin have a similar problem.

34. Some people loved him
Mostly rich Republicans. All my friends thought he was an idiot and didn't like his Reaganomics - smoke and mirrors. The Republicans have worked hard to rehabilitate his image into Saint Ronnie. At the time a lot of people didn't like him at all.

36. "he signed off" but he doesn't know what he signed off on? For an AG, that's really dumb
We know he's been lying through his teeth, Sampson even said so and the docs reveal that. But either way, he's either a complete dummy or a complete liar. I go for the latter.

He couldn't remember a single death warrant that he put in front of Bush to sign when W was Governor of Texas. Not one.

12. What is about the Bush administration that causes memory loss?
Libby "can't remember", Sampson "can't remember" and now Gonzales "can't remember". We haven't had this much memory loss since Iran Contra and Watergate.

25. Assheimer's is what I would call it. My definition here:
Assheimer's Disease - a disease of political asses characterized by self-serving and selective memory loss specific to information that would cause legal or political jeopardy to the victim or to the victim's political party, leaders or cronies.

14. He should be interrogated in one of his Decider's torture sites that don't exist
Alberto wrote about the theoretical pardoning of government high officials that tortured-and he went into some details about crushing young boys testicles that reflect those class distinctions of loyal Bushies.

John Ashcroft set the standards for Gonzales, who lowered them further-and that's what a loyal Bushie gets rewards for...

This is the current top lawman of HOMELAND(tm)-not The United States of America, a corrupt, lying, sadistic, criminal POS imo.

21. so, why are all these "memory issues" considered credible?
I mean, it's obvious that either a) most of them are lying; or b) they have chronic brain dysfunction and short/long term memory impairment.

In either case, they're not fit to govern.

26. "I dunno."
"I don't remember."

"I know nothing."

"I wasn't involved."

"I just signed the papers without reading them."

You know, I could do that job, and I'd be willing to do it for less, since I didn't spend the money on an expensive Harvard education.

Anyone who can't answer the QUESTION is FIRED, if he LIES, He is JAILED.. If he LIES twice, a squirell gets to PLUCK OFF HIS NUTS.. Three TImes and the EASTER BUNNY Boils his EGGS..

It's actually about WATERBOARDING TIME, eh? Bet we'd see some MEMORY Improvement about then.. or so THEY SAY.. At least GONZO should be up for it :)

Even Better, maybe the Dems should 'FORGET' to find MONEY, or pass Bills for the IRAQ WAR?
