New barbs hit home in US Iraq showdown by Stephen Collinson
11 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The White House lashed Congress Friday for going on "vacation" before signing off on legislation funding troops in Iraq, driving up tensions in a showdown with Democrats for control of the war.

A day after the Senate passed a bill linking financing for the conflict to a timetable for a 2008 troop withdrawal, the Bush administration said Democratic tactics were already impacting troops and readiness of US forces.

But the top Senate Democrat Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record) accused Bush, who has vowed to veto the bill, of using "scare tactics" and distributed a non-partisan study which found the US Army could continue Iraq operations through most of July.

"The president was surprised to learn that Congress went on vacation today," said White House deputy spokeswoman Dana Perino.

Perino said the House of Representatives had failed to appoint members of Congress to liaise with the Senate to refine bills passed in each chamber, which both contain a withdrawal timetable, into a single piece of legislation

2. MC Rove should be glad as the Dems were beating them down on a daily basis
at least for us political/news junkies anyway.

Waxman alone is ripping them apart in tiny little pieces and that doesn't even count that the MSM won't dare mention the use of non-White House email accounts to directly break the law.

They should be happy and just take W back inside and rebrief him on some more bullshit talking points er I mean get his drink back on.

5. It's like the guy getting his butt whipped in a bar fight
After his assailant has had enough of pummeling him and walks away, the victim hollers from his pooling blood, "Come back here and fight, goddamit!" Just call an ambulance, Spanky; don't you know when you've had enough?

Of course, this Congress wouldn't have needed to pass a supplemental funding bill if the previous Congress had passed a budget that provided adequate funding for the Chimpy's excellent little imperial wars. But they didn't, and Chimpy didn't ask for adequate funding because they wanted to crow about how much smaller the budget deficit was going to be in 2007. And the media ate it up, as if not paying two or three of the biggest bills was a brilliant strategy for balancing the budget.

34. Saudis Slammed the Door in His Face Already
Nobody in Iraq returns his calls. Lebanon is preoccupied, Israel is having political troubles of its own, and Iran would rather spit at him. And while the Khazaks and Usbeckis and alike are mean, tough customers, they aren't about to join any proxy war or political belligerence on any side. The Egyptians aren't dummies, Sudan is in flames, no, there aren't any allies left standing in the oil bidness.

And as for Europe---don't even go there!

16. This from the administration that has no e-mails for 18 days
due to the Thanksgiving break?

Or took the entire month of August off in 2001?

Or couldn't be bothered to address the public after the worst natural disaster in modern history (the tsunami) wiped 100K+ people off the earth?

Or when Katrina hit?

I think Bush's balls must be about twice the size of his brain.

numerous improper vacations he has taken. Hell, he let a whole city sink while on vacation.

19. Aren't congressional vacations more or less regularly scheduled?
So Dumbass is basically saying that after six years on the job he still doesn't have a clue how things work? He still gets surprised by the normal and ordinary operations of government?

Here it is right on the website for the house: April 2 - April 13 Spring District Work Period
http://www.house.gov/house/House_Calendar.shtml

And right over here is the senate schedule: April 2-9 Senate not in session
http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/legislative/two_column_table/2007_Schedule.htm

And where will Dumbass himself be between April 2 and April 9?

23. It's clear why bush wants to rush this veto and force Congress to rewrite the bill.
Although bush has enough money to run the Iraq war until July, he does NOT have money to do that and fire up the Iranian war at the same time.

It should be clear to everyone here that by refusing to fund the Iraqi war without a pullout timetable, the Democrats have forced bush to delay his April invasion plans in Iran. He was just planning on stealing the money to do what he wanted to with it anyway.
