Hershey unions vote on whether to accept cutbacks

By Our Wire Services

HERSHEY, Pa. — Unionized workers at two Hershey chocolate factories were finishing their vote Friday on whether to accept a tentative agreement that would keep the hometown factories open but allow the elimination of hundreds of jobs.

The agreement emerged from talks between The Hershey Co. and Chocolate Workers Local 464 in the wake of an announcement by North America’s largest candymaker that it would slash its workforce and build a plant in Mexico.

As many as 650 jobs could be cut at Hershey, but the agreement would keep open the two plants where they work, including Hershey’s century-old flagship factory on Chocolate Avenue.

The maker of Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s peanut butter cups and Mounds bars has about 20 plants in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil.

1. I find it hard to believe that The Hershey Co is hurting for $ Why
do they feel the need to cut back, are the CEO's only making 6000%? And they just can't live on that?

With all the Hershey products that are sold, they really need to cut back?

2. Keep our candy (and other foods) in America!
Pay American workers a living wage.

If Hershey wants to build a plant in Mexico - then sell that product in Mexico to Mexicans. Shipments back to America should be banned.

Note: Most of the Brach's bulk candy in my Giant Eagle Supermarket are made in South American countries.
