Ukrainian rivals mass in capital

A power struggle inside the government in Ukraine has brought thousands
of demonstrators out on to the streets in the capital, Kiev.

Rival supporters of the two main opposing political factions are defying
a court order and gathering for big rallies in the centre of the city.

The pro-Western President, Viktor Yushchenko, has threatened a snap
election to end political deadlock.

The move is being resisted by the pro-Russian governing coalition.

1. Recent political events in
Ukraine have been a great interest to me for a while. Im so saddened the Orange Revolution lost so much blood, it is facing an quite uncertain future. Yanukovych is a thug and is Putin's man in Kiev. I hope they are able to rekindled the spirit of 2004. The former Orange Coalition was not perfect and had its own failings, but still preferable.

let's hope they don't rekindle people getting killed. life is short enough without
bringing its end needlessly sooner.

3. I just checked maidanua.org, usually a good site for
populist or activist politics in Ukr. They always used to have a fair amount of Russian, which, for a Ukrainian activist site, I took as a sign of open-mindedness and inclusivity. During the Orange rev. thing I translated a bunch of postings for a Canadian professor who was helping with PR in the West.

I just checked. Nary a post in Russian.

But there are still pictures.
