WASHINGTON - Sen. John McCain's campaign for the White House has pulled him away from his day job more often than any other presidential candidate in the Senate.

An Arizona Republic analysis of voting records found that McCain has missed 42 votes this session. That's 33 percent of the 126 roll-call votes that had been held before lawmakers left town Friday for a weeklong Easter recess.

Only Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., has missed more votes than McCain, a contender for the GOP nomination. Johnson, who is recovering from a brain hemorrhage last winter, has been absent for the entire session of Congress.

Leading candidates for the Democratic nomination have posted far better voting records. >>>snip

2. avoiding important votes so there's no record in Senate?
One way to appear like he's not a bushie but not a Dem supporter, either.

3. The Republic(an)--that's what it used to be called, btw,
LOVES McCain. I'm surprised this got through the editors as written.

Damn; if they keep that up, I may have to subscribe again...

5. How many of the 42 were procedural and/or over-determined?
Statistics of that kind are maddeningly easy to abuse. Of course, should McCain not get the GOP nom, expect the Republicans to attempt to impale any Democratic senator contenders on the same pike.

6. is AEI on corporate media speed dial?
"A candidate who is serious about running for president who pushes the fundraising and campaigning aside (to avoid missing any Senate business) in the first quarter is dead," said Norm Ornstein, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington.

When (and a big if) quoting a progressive organization, corporate media tends to describe it as such (left-leaning, liberal, etc.)... but, in this example, we see the quote is simply from 'a resident scholar at the' AEI. Wonder who the preferred AEI candidate is? Why go to a right-wing agenda-driven organization for opinion?

Of course, no comparative mention of votes from any House candidate. Product placement is a key part of corporate advertising. It's important to see a Pepsi can in a scene to sell it.

Missing votes helps not to have a record, eh, BSxpress McPain?
