Iran must release detained British sailors: Bush
Source: CBC

Iran is engaging in "inexcusable behaviour" by detaining 15 British sailors and marines, U.S. President George W. Bush said Saturday, calling for the immediate release the Royal Navy crew.

"Iran must give back the hostages," Bush said at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland. "They're innocent, they did nothing wrong, and they were summarily plucked out of waters."

The comments were the first by Bush on the crisis, and when questioned by reporters, Bush said he fully supports the efforts of British Prime Minister Tony Blair to resolve the situation through diplomatic means.

"I support the prime minister when he made it clear there were no quid pro quos," Bush said.

18. But they don't bluster and act like Rulers of the World.
Edited on Sat Mar-31-07 08:16 PM by ShortnFiery
There's absolutely nothing "fair" in the way we constantly coerce and bully other countries.

On Edit: It's not out of the question to consider that the USA and/or UK bribed or coerced France and the European Union into making such a statement. Both statements were not of the "or else" emphasis that our Idiot King loves to blather. :puke:

7. I don't think Bush really cares about hostages
If they were killed in a bombing run he would call it collateral damage and blame Iran.

I knew he liked capital punishment, but I didn't realize there were that many executions during his tenure. 152! I guess it was useful training for being a war monger.

23. Bush to Iran: 'Give back the hostages'
Source: Associated Press

CAMP DAVID, Md. - President Bush on Saturday said Iran's capture of 15 British sailors and marines was "inexcusable" and called for Iran to "give back the hostages" immediately and unconditionally.

Bush said Iran plucked the sailors out of Iraqi waters. Iran's president said Saturday they were in Iranian waters and called Britain and its allies "arrogant and selfish" for not apologizing for trespassing.

"It's inexcusable behavior," Bush said at the Camp David presidential retreat, where he was meeting with the president of Brazil. "Iran must give back the hostages. They're innocent. They did nothing wrong."

It was the first time that Bush had commented publicly on the captured Britons. Washington has taken a low-key approach to avoid aggravating tensions over the incident and shaking international resolve to get Iran to give up its uranium enrichment program

26. Didn't something like this happen between China and the U.S. in 2001?
Edited on Sat Mar-31-07 11:06 PM by Miss Chybil
I'm Googling now, but not sure what to look for.

On edit: I found it...

http://archives.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/asiapcf/east/04/02/china.aircollision.03/

BEIJING, China -- The United States has criticized Chinese authorities for holding the 24 crew members of a downed spy plane after it made an emergency landing in China.

The U.S. ambassador to China, Adm. Joseph Prueher, complained that since the plane made an emergency landing on China's Hainan Island, off the nation's south coast, there had been no communication with the crew.

The incident has the potential to heighten tension between the United States and China at a time when overtures for a more settled relationship were being initiated.

The propeller-powered Navy EP-3 Aries II surveillance plane collided in midair with one of two Chinese F-8 jet fighters that had been sent to intercept it. The U.S. aircraft then limped the 70 nautical miles to a military airfield on Hainan Island.

Now, I'll look to see how it was finally resolved...

27. China took some U.S. airmen into custody in the early days of the Bush admin
It was a spyplane near the Chinese coast. The Chinese forced them to land in China, detained them for a while, then sent them home. The Chinese kept the spyplane. They took it apart and sent it back later in crates (after learning what they could).

Bush mostly worried about whether the air crew had enough Bibles and exercise equipment. It was probably the first definitive proof of what a dimwit he is. I presume Cheney was pulling most of the strings during that one.

29. Yes, I just realized the date on the article. God, Bush has been in office a long
time! I remember it now, because I was upset that Clinton seemed to have been making headway with US/Chinese relations then as soon as he was gone this happened!

I corrected my post.
