Post ChroniclePet Food Recall update 5 - The FDA has halted imports from the company being currently held responsible for the tainted dog and cat pet food. However it may not be the only gluten supplier for the tainted pet food.
PetConnection.com, a Web site that is tracking the recall, has allegedly received as many as 2,900 reports of pet deaths from food-related kidney failure.
Geng Xiujuan, Xuzhou Anying's sales manager, stated that the company was aware of the notice and was looking into the accusation that large concentrations of melamine had been found in its wheat gluten, according to the International Herald Tribune.
However, Geng said the company which is based in the eastern province of Jiangsu, had not manufactured the gluten but had instead bought it from companies in neighboring provinces. Xuzhou Anying evdently sold it onward to another Jiangsu company, Suzhou Textile Import and Export Co.
