U.S. Military Chief Says Hundreds of Iraqis Detained

Sun December 21, 2003 11:10 AM ET

The chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Sunday the capture of Saddam Hussein has led to the arrest of hundreds of Iraqis, including some leaders of the insurgency.

On the "Fox News Sunday" program, Gen. Richard Myers also said Saddam was not cooperating with U.S. authorities who have been interrogating him since he was caught on Dec. 13 near his hometown of Tikrit.

"We've put our best interrogators on him. The only word I have is that he is not being cooperative," Myers said of the effort being run by officials outside of the Defense Department.

/snip/ - ( gee, not cooperative after blowing his country to sh*t. Who woulda figured ??)

"On the CBS "Face the Nation" program, Myers later said there had been "over 200 people detained based on that intelligence, probably more to come."

/snip/

Hmmm - "people" - not leaders, conspirators, geurillas or even the dubious "insurgents" ??

And Yah of course, "more to come" - ANYONE will do as scapegoats for the BFEE - no ?

1. The two reports don't make sense with one another...
... so I'd be inclined to believe neither of them until there is something of more substance.

The story is also a bit of a "report it because it was reported" routine--Bloomberg picked it up from AFP and AFP picked it up from the London Express, which is one of the UK tabloids. This could just as easily be a planted item to upset the Kurds' applecart in negotiations about the government.

Also, judging by some of the reports of the prisoners held at Baghdad airport, they've been grabbing whoever they please and leaving them there. A couple of hundred arrests does not mean an end to the bombings and the ambushes, as time will likely show.

2. Not Cooperative= Can't Say where WMD are hidden
Because he had no WMD

Only if he had WMD could he be cooperating

4. Two theories - IF he had WMD's
. . The USA found them and are keeping them for hmm - Iran/Syria maybe ?

OR

They are still hidden in Iraq, booby-trapped for whenever the USA finds them.

Personally, I don't think they will ever find anything, and the troops better HOPE they don't "find" anything.

Crazy Saddam may be, but not 'tupid

oh - ya, one more idea,

they might "turn up" around S'lection time

3. considering that the kurds had pre-captured saddam
they no doubt planted the files found with him to contain the names of their enemies - sounds like the u.s. military is now doing their dirty work (which may or not have any impact on fighting the iraqi insurgents).
