In Alabama, Giuliani Calls Confederate Flag a Local Issue
Source: New York Times

~snip~

“One of the great beauties of the kind of government we have, which is a national/federal government, is that we can make — on a broad range of issues — we can make different decisions in different parts of the country,” Mr. Giuliani said. “We have different sensitivities, and at different times we are going to come to different decisions, and I think that is best left up to the states.”

~snip~

The question about the flying the flag, which was raised in connection to comments by Senator John McCain on “60 Minutes” on Sunday, has tripped up Republican candidates in the past, including Mr. McCain in South Carolina in 2000.

Mr. McCain originally said back then the matter of flying a Confederate flag was best left to the states to decide, only to reverse himself and call that flag an offensive symbol that was more than a state matter. On “60 Minutes” he said he regretted that he had “worse than waffled” and blamed ambition for his comments.

On Tuesday, Mr. Giuliani offered a window into how he will deal with divisive topics on which more conservative voters might be inclined to disagree with his personal views.

9. This issue
along with flag burning (any), gay hating, abortion, and guns, is just another ridiculous way to cast the debate on irrelevant things, while ignoring heatlh care, insurance, skyrocketing costs of necessities like gas, rent, medical care, and utilities, as well as education. Instead, the dickhead media wants to talk about confederate flag bullshit.

Sorry, but this is just stupid. This is exactly why democrats can't have debates on FAUX News, as they will talk about the most stupid, inane, unimportant shit, that has nothing to do with the real lives of society, and favors republicans, especially in the South. Don't think I'm full of it on this, as I live in the South, and a lot of people have passed down the hatred from not being allowed to deal in human chattel. It is sad but true.

2. Mr. Giuliani, Out of touch...much?
The Confederate battle flag has not flown over the Alabama Capitol for a number of years, and there is no current campaign to return it there.
Alabama removed all Confederate symbols from flags at its Capitol building in 1993.

Mr. Giuliani was also asked by a local reporter if he knew the price of a gallon of milk, which seemed to catch him off guard. He said, the last time he remembered buying milk, it cost about $1.50.

The United States Department of Agriculture placed the average price in March at $3.21.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Alabama

The flag of the State of Alabama shall be a crimson cross of St. Andrew on a field of white. The bars forming the cross shall be not less than six inches broad, and must extend diagonally across the flag from side to side."

The saltire design of the Alabama state flag also bears resemblance to several other flags. It is identical to the flag of Saint Patrick, incorporated into the Union Flag of the United Kingdom to represent the union of the Kingdom of Great Britain with the Kingdom of Ireland.
Some speculate that this may be due to the large percentage of the Alabama population that is descended from Scots-Irish settlers from Ulster.
About the middle of the tenth century, Andrew became the patron saint of Scotland.

access to housing, and hiring practices. These are all local issues. Glad to see Rudy didn't go down south to agitate.

8. What's amazing to me is how people just so readily accept
that a politician will lie and pander to get elected - some even go so far as to defend the practice as "necessary." Then these same people whine and moan because, once elected, the politician continues to lie and pander - and worse. Almost as if those defending the practice think the politician is going to stop lying and pandering once in office. Talk about naive.
