Families Sue U.S., Reject 9/11 'Bribe'
The compensation fund has been controversial since President George W. Bush signed it into law 13 days after the attacks. For those who lost family members, it was always about protecting airlines, federal, state and local authorities from billions of dollars of lawsuits

3. It's more than a bribe - it's obstruction of justice...
Not only does it save the airlines and associated service companies like airport security firms from liability, but it also prevents people from going to court to find out WHO in the airlines AND the govt made the grave errors and let the attack happen in the first place.

I would've passed on the bribe and raised holy hell if one of my loved ones were killed that day...

8. It is that for sure.
Thomas Kean has been a complete disappointment. Check out this link.

I'm surprised that the dems didn't make Mr. Kean recused himself because of conflict of interest.

We can kiss the 911 Investigation good bye, 'eh? We are so screwed!

2. good for them...
I'm always happy to see people stand up to the cabal that MIHOP. In a perfect world, all their shennanigans would come out and they would be held accountable for the thousands of people who have died on their watch, including those in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere, not just in the WTC.

4. I always thought the payoff was a bad idea
If they can prove someone in the US is responsible and has money to pay, they should sue. If they cannot prove it they should get nothing. I do not believe the taxpayer is responsible for the WTC and that is who is paying for the compensation fund.

If * or some other administration official is culpable we would end up paying anyway but at least we would know who did this and could get rid of him. I'm not sure they could ever reach the level of proof required in a court of law anyway. If we agree that it was terrorism, and Bin Laden has taken credit many times, it gets down to who knew what and when in the administration. That is tough to determine.

5. Agreed
In essence the * admin has decided to "settle out of court" on behalf of everyone involved. Requiring people to sign away any chance of revealing the truth behind what happened makes this nothing less than blood money.

6. it explains americans pretty well
take the money and run.

they're faced with a guarantee of being rich in exchange for their loved ones lives, or the risk of not winning a lawsuit, many juries will see someone who is suing as a money grubber, not a true defender of our country. besides its easier.

10. I agree it was a filthy bribe, but
some of those people had little choice, with no other resources to survive on after the loss of their chief breadwinners. I really hope this doesn't turn into a "blame the victim" type thread. After all, we all gotta do what we all gotta do.

Wanna add... Big KUDOS to those who refused GW's bribe.
