Durable Goods Orders Unexpectedly Drop in November
Dow Jones Newswires

WASHINGTON -- Durable-goods orders unexpectedly fell for the first time in three months in November amid a plunge in orders for computers, communications equipment and aircraft.

Durable-goods orders dropped 3.1% to $180.1 billion last month, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. But orders for October were revised to a 4% gain, much stronger than the previously estimated 3.4% increase.

The overall decrease in orders for products designed to last at least three years was also the largest monthly decline since a 6% drop in September 2002, Commerce said. Durable-goods demand dipped 0.1% in August but climbed sharply in both September and October. Estimates on durable goods are volatile and subject to revision; analysts caution against using monthly figures when trying to tell where the U.S. economy is heading.

People were spending their paltry bribe (re: tax checks) from Shrub this fall. It's all gone now and the trough is empty...

9. this is big news
and would be bigger if it werent for the fact that everyone is busy throwing their ground chuck into the trash.

2 weeks ago Bush took credit for the booming economy - i wonder if he'll take the blame for the fluttering of the stimulus package. I do agree, he's going to use this as evidence for another tax cut. Everything that happens seems to justify a tax cut in his mind - it's surreal.
