On the radio (france-info).
All air france flights from Paris to LA are cancelled for 12/24 and 12/25. It's security related and... they are enquiring.

2. oh for cryin' out loud
This better be for real and not more "hate the French" crap.

The * administration totally s*** on our Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial and cost our tourism industries hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars. Chirac was going to come and participate, until he got the blow-off from *. It was a total stab in the back for our state, which gets lots of tourists from France, to visit New Orleans and also Acadiana.

They better have some evidence of their claims, is all I'm saying.

14. I do blame Mike Foster...a numb***s if there ever was one
I have zero respect for his crummy excuse for "leadership."

Too much biking without his helmet is my guess.

4. CNN confirms 3 flights from Paris to LA cancelled...
Shit! I guess there's something to this Orange Alert. For Air France to cancel three lucrative flights, then something is happening... :scared:

10. Baloney
They still can't get their stories straight. First it was foreign pilots, then cargo aircraft, now back to foreign pilots again. And that fact that it was French dovetails nicely with the prejudices of the administation.

6. Because Air France cancelled them out of security concerns...
If the US DHS cancelled them, I'd consider it suspect, but Air France said specifically that the flights were being cancelled because of security concerns...

11. "Intense diplomatic pressure"
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 02:44 PM by blackcat77
It was OUR idea, not their's

(edit)
Lisa Meyers just said on MSNBC that if Air France hadn't cancelled the flights, the US was going to deny them clearance. The airline had no option. And again, it's FRANCE that's targeted and will will be targeted indefinately into the future.

12. And it comes at the same time that Rumsfeld
makes unspecific claims about attacks having been prevented this holiday season. How very convenient.

This is a very deliberate and tightly choreographed spectacle: go to threat level orange, claim successes in preventing attacks, turn back some flights...

15. wth ?
Are they saying the pilots of these flights are themselves terrorists? They had better have some proof or at least some probable cause...it seems tantamount to accusing them of being mass murderers?

17. I don't think they even need to accuse the pilots
They just need to request the flight cancellations based on vague and unspecific intelligence and let people draw their own conclusions.

21. Meanwhile United and American Paris flights go on as scheduled.
Why Air France? Sounds like a revenge ploy by Bush/Cheney's neocons to get even for France's antiwar stance.
If I were a terra-ist, i would target United, American, or British Airways, not Air France! Geez.

Three Air France flights to Los Angeles Wednesday have reportedly been cancelled due to fears they might be used in a terrorist attack.

Both Reuters and Agence France-Presse reported the cancellations of the three flights, which were not identified. The warning came after top-level French cabinet ministers met to consider warnings from the U.S. embassy in Paris, according to AFP.

The United States raised its terror-threat warning to ‘elevated,' citing fears of a terrorist attack over the holidays.

More to come

13. Not identified?
Well seeing how there are only 6 Paris to LAX flights scheduled for today and only two of thosw were non stop (068 and 070) it should not be all that hard to figure out..

Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 03:40 PM by amazona
here's the link:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/12/24/threat.level/index.html

"Air France flights 68 and 70 from Paris to Los Angeles and Flight 382 to Los Angeles via Cincinnati were listed as canceled Wednesday afternoon. The decision came after consultation between U.S. and French authorities, a senior U.S. official said."

Cincinnati???

P.S. they also claim a possible threat to Shenadoah National Park in the Blue Ridge. "All your deer are belong to us?"

23. Think about it
If the "intelligence" was so good, wouldn't it make sense to proceed as if nothing was wrong & THEN bag the "evil-doers" after they had boarded the aircraft?... GIMMEE A BREAK!!!!! this story stinks to high heaven!
