Pakistani President Survives Second Assassination Attempt
Pakistani President Survives Second Assassination Attempt in Less Than Two Weeks; 14 Killed
By Matthew Pennington Associated Press Writer
Published: Dec 25, 2003

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AP) - Two suicide bombs exploded as President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's motorcade passed Thursday, the second attempt to assassinate him in two weeks, officials said. Musharraf's car was damaged though he was unhurt, and at least 14 bystanders were killed.
The bombing in Rawalpindi, outside the capital, occurred near where a huge bomb exploded on Dec. 14 shortly after a convoy with Musharraf drove by. He escaped that attempt uninjured as well, and officials said high-tech jamming devices in the president's motorcade had delayed the device and saved his life.

In Thursday's attack, two suicide bombers detonated explosives hidden in pickup trucks as the president's motorcade passed two nearby gas stations on a main road in Rawalpindi, chief army spokesman Gen. Shaukat Sultan said.

3. Yep, Bush has staked our security on the guy.
Unbelievable.

In election 2000 Bush failed to get Musharraf's name right (when quizzed in that one famous interview), even though Musharraf had just taken over Pakistan in a coup. Now Bush has placed literally all of America's chips on the guy.

Musharraf is one of the good guys now. Never mind the nukes Pakistan has or the virulent anti-Americanism of its people.

4. IMHO -- This is the biggest threat to the world right now..
being they have 'the' bomb.. If this guy gets taken out and the bomb gets in the hands of those that hate us.. anything could happen.

But, we caught Sadaam and all is well - right? :scared:
