BAGHDAD, Iraq, Thursday, Dec. 25 — As Iraqis and occupation soldiers began their Christmas celebrations on Wednesday and early Thursday, guerrilla fighters unleashed a string of intense rocket and bomb attacks across the country, killing at least four American soldiers and six Iraqi civilians and wounding dozens of people, military and government officials said.

Christmas morning began in spectacular fashion, as insurgents fired more than a half dozen rockets at dawn in different parts of Baghdad, including at the American compound at the old Republican Palace. At least one rocket slammed into the Sheraton Hotel around the eighth floor, shattering glass and damaging part of the building, but apparently injuring no one, witnesses said. Another rocket hit a building east of the hotel, injuring several Iraqi civilians, said an American soldier guarding the hotel.

Hope this isn't a dupe, looked for it because I was sure that it would already have been posted, couldn't find it. But then again, my computer is really acting up today. My internet is all messed up.

4. It's a dupe in the sense that it's a summary
There was a thread for the three US soldiers killed near Samarra (Task Force Ironhorse) as well as for the one soldier killed in Baghdad (Unit unidentified but probably 1st Armored Division). There was also a thread for the Kirkuk car bomb, and another for the Sheraton rocket attack.

I say this only because these summary threads can be confusing.

There were 4 (four) US soldiers killed in Iraq yesterday, not eight.

10. From the linked article
But ****Wednesday**** began with incidents of bloodshed across the country. A roadside bomb exploded at 9:10 a.m. as an American military convoy was passing Samarra, killing three soldiers, said Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, a military spokesman.

Samarra is 60 miles north of Baghdad and a stronghold of guerrilla forces. In the last week, American soldiers detained dozens of suspected insurgents or supporters in the area while stepping up raids. In an incident in late November, military officials said soldiers with two American convoys killed 54 guerrillas after being ambushed, though residents of Samarra said the soldiers killed fewer than a dozen of the attackers.

A fourth American soldier was killed ****on Wednesday**** by a bomb during an operation in Baghdad, the military said.

Yes, I'm sure.
