World borders closing to U.S. beef - - - ( update - now 11 and counting)

some things we have NOT been told -

From the article:

"Because the brain-wasting disease is usually transmitted through contaminated feed and has an incubation period of four to five years, it is "important to focus on the feed where she was born" DeHaven said."

/snip/ - hmm - - "disease is usually transmitted through contaminated feed and has an incubation period of four to five years" - sooo this didn't "just" happen now did it ?

More from the Article:

In Washington, Democrats jumped on Republicans who removed from a massive agriculture spending bill a ban on processing meat from "downed" animals, those that are ill when they reach the plant. USDA officials have said the Holstein in Washington state was a downer.

U.S. Representative Gary Ackerman was been a leader in supporting the processing prohibition. "This is something that's a potential disaster," the New York Democrat said.

"This was so predictable by anybody following the issue."

1. Kansas Woman Dies of Mad Cow
Kansas Woman Dies Of Mad Cow

From Allan P
12-24-03

My son's mother-in-law was diagnosed as having CJD, aka Mad Cow Disease, December 2. She died Sunday night, December 21. So, I guess you could say that I am very concerned about this situation in the United States. Also have a tendency to think the authorities may be downplaying the situation because of the tremendous economic repercussions from it.

Today, a reporter from the Salina Journal contacted my son. It will be interesting to see if they run a story about it in the next few days. http://www.saljournal.com

3. They are not necessarily the same thing
In humans, mad cow disease (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) manifests itself as variant Creutzfeld-Jakob disease, and is distinct from sporadic and iatrogenic C-J disease. It involves the lymphoreticular system.

I just point this out so that people don't presume that the causes of the distinct phenotypic forms of C-J disease are the same. Only one is caused by ingesting beef tissue with mad cow prions present.

Neverthless, I'm very sorry about your son's mother-in-law, regardless of how she acquired that terrible disease.

2. Republicans are the real downers
We must hang this Mad Cow issue around their necks like a stinking albatross.

So. 11 countries have shut out U.S. beef. Would that they do the same for the other bovine products that are a major export since 1/20/2001.

6. The Problem May Be Worse Than We Can Imagine
Remember Regan's attitude about HIV in the '80's?

Cattle are a large process of the Drug Industry now and prions can be passes along in the medicine you take according to some studies.

9. Reading through the list on rense.com
Chewing gum? Whitener for sugar??? Ornaments made from gallstones???This list is amazing, and scary. Didn't realize how much our economy relies on cattle.

7. only way to learn what US is facing is test every animal
The only way to learn what the United States is facing is to test every animal, Dr. Prusiner said.

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/12/25/national/25WARN.html?pagewanted=2&hp

Folks, warning flags have been flying on this issue
for more than 20 years.

I know, because my families in the beef industry
and I became a vegetarian. They still ask if I want
the many varieties of meat that they serve everytime
I visit.

8. Agreed, JM.
I'm sort of a curiosity in my office, because I do not eat meat. As they're eating their hamburgers and meat loaf lunches, they ask me again, "Now what is it that you don't eat?". I repeat patiently, "I occasionally eat turkey and sometimes fish. The only thing I will Refuse To Eat, is beef and pork. It's not safe to eat".

I wonder if they're thinking about me now. You're right, JM. The red alert light has been lit for years. Those responsible for the food we eat have been looking the other way, repeatedly.

They were just not going to care about it until disaster struck. They would only clean up their industry when forced to do so. Money, or loss of money, is the only thing that motivates them.
