Top Bush aide leaving White House (Dan Bartlett)
Edited on Fri Jun-01-07 08:18 AM by maddezmom
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - Dan Bartlett, one of President Bush's most trusted advisers and his longest-serving aide, said Friday he is resigning to begin a career outside of government.

The move was announced on Bartlett's 36th birthday. He has been with Bush for nearly 14 years, from Bush's first campaign as governor of Texas, through two races for the White House and more than six years of a presidency marked by costly wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and an ongoing battle against terrorism.

As counselor to the president, Bartlett has been at the center of White House decision-making, stepping into the public eye in times of trouble to defend Bush on everything from the unpopular war in Iraq to the government's bungled response to Hurricane Katrina and the Republicans' loss of Congress.

35. Bush makes Nixon look Good, and Gonzales makes
Ashcroft look even better. So if all the kings men are getting jobs in the lobby industry, it does really mean it is time to clean out that industry too. I know there seems to be lots of talk and then it fads, but does anyone know what is going on there?

I guess working for the Bushies prematurely ages a person, being around all of that toxic behavior and thought.

Sounds like working for bush must have been his first job out of school at 22.

I'm 36 (almost) and it seems like I'm not old enough to have done anything for 14 years of my adult life! Guess Dan's just more focused than I am.

9. CNN said he is leaving to make more $ for his family. I suspect
this is true since * seems to think that troops living on food stamps is okay. They said he has 3 or 4 little kids, and if he has been working for * for this long, he probably hasn't made that much headway unless they cut him in on some special financial deals. Of course, no telling how much money he's made off of KBR and the war.

44. Who knows, since Snow is now with Chrysler
maybe he'll end up there? I work for Chrysler and when I found out Dan Quayle is on the board, I about crapped. So much for Chrysler.....guess we will all be making tanks now and rockets, gotta keep those war profits rolling in.

BTW, my manager sat in on the special mtg held after the buyout and the top guy at Ceberus was there (name slips my mind right now) and he was damned uncomfortable being there. Didn't take any questions from anyone and booked out immediately after making a short announcement. She said he is a very poor public speaker, but made no apologies for his quick exit or his poor grammar. Sounds like he grajeeated with lil boots?

15. Breaking - Dan Bartlett to leave post @ White House.
Source: MSNBC

WASHINGTON - Dan Bartlett, one of President Bush's most trusted advisers and his longest-serving aide, said Friday he is resigning to begin a career outside of government.

In an interview, Bartlett, who turned 36 on Friday, said he had been pondering his departure for months and decided now is the best time to get a less demanding job so he can concentrate on helping raise three children all under the age of 4.

He is the most important White House insider to leave Bush’s side since the resignation last November of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

22. Another war criminal exits left
Rats fleeing a sinking ship, albeit delusional rats. This one thinks everything is rosy, we just hit a rough patch. No wonder bush himself is delusional. He has close advisers like Bartlett to tell him he's on the right course.
Top-level Bush aide resigning to go into private business
He (Bartlett) said he had no regrets about the Iraq war and he believes Bush's low approval ratings were the result of making tough decisions.

"Sometimes when you lead the country you do difficult things, that you're going to experience periods that are going to be rocky, particularly when it has to do with war and loss of life," Bartlett said.

"It will be one of those things, when I hang up the spurs for the last time, I'll be able to look in the mirror and say, `I know this president and this White House did what they thought was right.' And at the end of the day, that's all you can do."

24. So which scandal will it turn out that he was involved with and when will the news break?
Scooter could have thrown his name to Pat Fitzgerald as a get out of jail free card or maybe he was involved in the U.S. Attorney scandal and was outed by Monica Goodling.

I'm personally putting my money on Abramoff. No particular reason but didn't one of Rove's assistants just get immunity in the case?

So many scandals to choose from--so little time.

Of course he could just want to spend more time with his family. Yeah right.

so that he could "take care of" any "problems" in bush's records from back when bush was "on duty." The "bush's Brain" author was on "Countdown" talking about it earlier this evening.

Boy, would I like to see him facing obstruction of justice charges.

And I, too, was startled to hear that he's only 36. I would have said ten years older. Unfortunate, that. It means he's still a relatively young man - with many years still ahead of him in which to do evil.

Fourteen years as a steadily-rising made man for a crime cartel during its most profitable crime spree? Some Republican welfare sinecure is in the offing, if Bartlett can manage to stay out of jail.
